The war in Iran has sparked huge controversy from both sides of the aisle, including within the loyal MAGA base of voters. Some say this war is the bidding of Israel and Israel alone, while others say this war is Trump going back on his word and including America in another “forever war”. However, due to recent reporting on the oil and energy industry regarding Iran and Venezuela, experts are saying that viewing these conflicts through the lens of energy could give insight into Trump’s overall plan. Trump could be playing a genius “long game” with our adversary China through energy economics in these countries.

Starting with Iran, let’s examine Trump’s potential plan. It’s no secret that America’s number one adversary in terms of world power is China and its communist government. China has been making subtle moves against America for years. Whether it is through the national debt to them, or flirting with a siege of Taiwan. Iran is one of China’s number one energy suppliers with its oil trade. In fact, China imports 90% of its oil from Iran. This tallies up to a tremendous 1.38 million BPD (Barrels Per Day). For comparison, China uses approximately 16 million BPD to power their country as of 2024. Without that vital resource, China could have a massive energy crisis without Iranian support. Now, with America’s military closing in on the Iranian regime, we could be simultaneously making two major plays. The first is obviously toppling a dangerous islamic terror government that poses a threat to America. And the second, while more subtle, could be to cripple China’s energy consumption. Two major wins for America under Trump’s guidance.

The same could be said for Venezuela. Trump has said publicly that Venezuela has massive oil reserves that American companies will now take advantage of. Not only is that a win for our gas prices, but it could be another subtle attack on China’s energy. Venezuela exports approximately 642,000 BPD (barrels per day) to China. While being half of what Iran gives to China, this is still another massive amount of oil sent to China daily. Now that we control that oil flowing from Venezuela, we could use it as pressure. Combined between these two countries, we have potentially eliminated just over 2 million BPD being sent to China. This could have a massive impact on China’s infrastructure. Trump has not made any public statements regarding this potential plan, however the business man in Trump is surely aware of these effects on our largest adversary. Could we be taking down two major threats to America, while simultaneously crippling China’s energy? This could be a major victory for the Trump administration.
