Many have been criticizing Trump’s plan in Iran from both the right and left wings. More specifically, the situation with the straits of Hormuz has been confronted with criticism. Due to the attack on Iran, the Iranian military has placed a blockade on the straits of Hormuz. This has had a huge effect on the global oil trade. Now, Trump has announced that American military members will be conducting a blockade of their own. Why could this be?

Approximately 20 million BPD (barrels per day) of oil is traded through the straits. This makes up approximately 25% of the global oil trade. Democrats have said this could have an effect on the American economy, driving up gas prices and energy costs. However, in the last few days, new reports have come in that may prove Trump’s long-term plan for energy in the context of Iran to be positive.

Donald Trump has taken to social media and stated, “massive numbers of “completely empty” oil tankers are en route to the United States to purchase American energy”. This is due to the global shortages of oil from the straights being closed. The world now turns to America to purchase their oil. This could only be possible under Trump’s close leadership and his plan to “drill baby drill”.

The numbers of oil tankers are staggering. Approximately 171 oil tankers were counted just a few days ago. That is a 60% increase in daily numbers from what is normal for the American oil market. The longer the world has no source of oil other than America, the more oil countries will purchase from us. This could mean huge increases in profit and trade, boosting the American economy. Trump also said this on social media, “Foreign buyers are voting with their ships: American energy means stability, strength, and freedom from Middle East blackmail.” This is just what America needed in this tumultuous time at war. It’s all thanks to Donald Trump and his foresight into the oil market.
