HANTAVIRUS VACCINE IN DEVELOPMENT FROM MODERNA
News has been spreading over the past few days about a new dangerous virus found on a cruise ship. The virus is named: Hantavirus, an illness primarily contracted after contact with rodents.
However, a new strain has been found on the Dutch cruise ship named the: HV Hondius. This new strain of Hantavirus can now travel between person to person, not from rodents exclusively. Several have died on this cruise from the illness. Now, the University of Korea is working in conjunction with Moderna to develop a vaccine for Hantavirus.
The interesting part about all of this is that the vaccine in question is being built on the mRNA platform used in COVID shots. What could this mean? A new round of government enforced vaccines?
Let’s start with the basic question of: what is Hantavirus? Hantavirus is an illness that attacks primarily the lungs; similar to pneumonia. The symptoms include shortness of breath, chest pain, fluid in the lungs, fatigue, and much more.
How dangerous is Hantavirus? Hantavirus, according to the CDC, has an approximate mortality rate of 30%. That makes it truly a formidable virus to manage for the human immune system. Currently, there is no real treatment for Hantavirus. The CDC prescribes rest and hydration as the main ways to combat it.
The number of people who have actually contracted this new Hantavirus strain is very low; confined to the people who were on this Dutch ship. However, reports are now growing that some in the general population of Europe have tested positive. With this in mind, Korea University has struck a deal with Moderna. They will be working together to develop a new vaccine for the virus.
However, this information is not quite accurate. According to reports from Korea University, the development of this vaccine began in 2024. Interesting timing for a vaccine to be developed for a virus that affects a very low population prior to this outbreak.
On top of this, the vaccine for Hantavirus is being built on the mRNA platform. This platform was used for the COVID vaccines, which carried much controversy due to its brand-new method of delivery. According to the VAERS (vaccine adverse event reporting system) potentially millions of people suffered dangerous adverse effects to the mRNA method of vaccination.
The data shows that 1.3 million reports of vaccine injuries were reported. Of those 1.3 million, approximately 20,000 deaths were shown to occur. The rest were injuries ranging from extended illness to disorders like Bell’s Palsy. It is important to keep in mind that this is only numbers from those that reported the injury. Who knows how many countless deaths or injuries happened that went unreported.
With a new virus on the horizon, and a new premature vaccine also in development, can we trust the good intentions of Moderna? Their track record with COVID would seem to say that we cannot. Especially with a potential vaccine that would be distributed being built on the same dangerous mRNA platform. Could this mean another worldwide pandemic? Could this mean more government sanctioned mandatory vaccines? Who knows. All that we can do is stay vigilant and do our own research as Hantavirus proceeds.
