FBI agents accuse Patel and Bondi in a lawsuit at federal court

April 2 2026, Published 7:30 a.m. ET

Three former FBI agents have filed a serious lawsuit in a federal court in Washington, D.C., which names FBI Director Kash Patel and Attorney General Pam Bondi. The lawsuit was filed after they were unfairly fired from their jobs, which they believe was part of a revenge plan linked to past investigations involving President Donald Trump.

The lawsuit further claims the agents were removed without a proper reason or fair process. Therefore, the case has now raised big questions about whether politics is influencing decisions inside federal law enforcement agencies, which are supposed to work independently.

FBI agents file lawsuit against Kash Patel and Pam Bondi

Jamie Garman, Blaire Toleman, and Michelle Ball, the three former FBI agents who worked in the FBI’s Washington field office on a public corruption team, claimed to have been unfairly fired from their jobs. This led them to file a lawsuit in a federal court.

Claiming to have been involved in investigations linked to President Donald Trump, the FBI agents mentioned that they were suddenly dismissed from their roles last year. The lawsuit thus represents all employees fired by the FBI since 1 January 2025 “on the basis of perceived political affiliation, without being afforded due process”.

Further, the lawsuit named FBI Director Kash Patel and Attorney General Pam Bondi as part of the process of firing. It stated that Patel and Bondi have “embarked on a public campaign to oust Plaintiffs from federal service because Defendants perceived them to be political opponents,”

The lawsuit further continued, “as if fidelity to the law and the proper execution of assignments were somehow hostile partisan acts. Defendants’ mission – in their own words – is retribution.” It accused Patel and Bondi of trying to remove FBI employees they saw as political opponents.

This comes after Bondi said in a March 2025 interview on Fox News that there were “a lot of people in the FBI and also in the Department of Justice who despise Donald Trump, despise us, don’t want to be here”. She further warned, “right now, we’re going to root them out; we will find them, and they will no longer be employed.”

The Three FBI Agents Seek Reinstatement

Meanwhile, with this lawsuit, the three former FBI agents are now asking the court to give them their jobs back. They are pushing for the case to become a class-action lawsuit, which could include at least 50 other FBI employees who were fired after January 2025 or may face similar action.

In a joint statement, the agents said, “Serving the American people as FBI agents was the highest honor of our lives. … Our removal from federal service — without due process and based on a false perception of political bias — is a profound injustice.”

Jamie Garman, Blaire Toleman, and Michelle Ball added that being removed from their jobs without a fair process, based on a false idea of political bias, felt like their rights were violated. So now, the case seems to be growing into what could have a big impact on how federal law enforcement works.

Dan Eisenberg, an attorney representing the agents, said, “This lawsuit seeks to reaffirm fundamental constitutional protections for FBI employees, ensuring they can perform their duties without fear or favor.”
