As the Middle East conflict enters its second week, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Sunday that they had struck the Tehran headquarters of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard’s “space force” unit.
The IDF said that they struck a reception, data transmission and research centre linked to an Iranian space agency on Sunday. According to the Israeli army, the centre was used to coordinate technological activities linked to Iran’s military structures.Amid news of the military operation, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi criticised U.S. President Donald Trump. In an interview on NBC’s Meet the Press programme, he stated that only the Iranian people, not the U.S. president, can decide on Iran’s future leader. Araghchi said no one should interfere in Iran’s internal affairs and demanded that Trump apologise to the people of the region and the Iranian people for the destruction and deaths caused during the war.
The statement came after Trump said earlier that he could play a role in selecting Iran’s next supreme leader. In addition, a day earlier, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian apologised to neighbouring states for any unintended consequences, emphasising that the attacks were only directed against them in response to provocation.
The Iranian president also said earlier that his country would not surrender to Israel and the United States.
