British political commentator Milo Yiannopoulos has been deported from the United States following his arrest by federal immigration authorities in Louisiana.
The outspoken former Breitbart News tech writer was returned to the United Kingdom after officials accused him of remaining in America beyond the period he was legally authorized to stay.

The development brings an abrupt end to Yiannopoulos’ years living and working in the United States, where he became a controversial figure in conservative politics and later worked with rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West.
His removal also comes as the Trump administration continues its nationwide immigration enforcement campaign.
The Department of Homeland Security confirmed Saturday that Yiannopoulos was deported to the United Kingdom on Friday, one day after Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested him at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport.

According to DHS, Yiannopoulos legally entered the United States in May 2019 but subsequently overstayed his authorized period in the country.
An immigration judge issued a final removal order against him on July 22 after Yiannopoulos failed to appear for an immigration hearing, according to a Homeland Security spokesperson.

“He chose to overstay his welcome in violation of our nation’s laws,” the DHS spokesperson said.
Yiannopoulos and his representatives had not publicly responded to the government’s account of his removal as of Saturday.
His X account, where he has remained an active and provocative presence, has not been updated since Thursday.
The deportation presents an unusual political twist because Yiannopoulos has publicly expressed strong support for Trump’s aggressive approach to immigration enforcement.
“Zero immigration for the next 20 years. No ifs, no buts,” Yiannopoulos wrote on X last year.
Yiannopoulos first became nationally prominent during his time as a writer and editor at Breitbart News, developing a large following through his confrontational commentary about feminism, Islam, immigration and political correctness.
His appearances on American college campuses frequently generated demonstrations, with supporters portraying him as a free-speech advocate while critics accused him of promoting hateful rhetoric.
Yiannopoulos resigned from Breitbart in 2017 after previously recorded comments concerning sexual relationships between adults and minors resurfaced and generated widespread condemnation.
He later apologized for the remarks and disclosed that he had himself been sexually assaulted as a minor.

Yiannopoulos remained involved in conservative political circles after leaving Breitbart, including briefly serving as an intern for then-Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene in 2022.
He later became involved with Ye, running the rapper’s short-lived 2024 presidential campaign and more recently serving as a spokesperson for him.
Ye performed in New Orleans on Friday evening, one day after Yiannopoulos was taken into immigration custody at the city’s airport.
Yiannopoulos’ detention also drew attention from conservative activist Laura Loomer, who has publicly feuded with him for years.

Loomer celebrated his arrest on social media and claimed she had previously raised questions about his immigration status.

The Department of Homeland Security’s action against Yiannopoulos comes amid the Trump administration’s broader effort to increase immigration enforcement and removals across the country.
His case is particularly notable because his own public rhetoric has repeatedly favored significantly tougher restrictions on immigration.

Federal officials say the underlying issue in his case was straightforward: Yiannopoulos entered the United States legally but subsequently remained beyond his authorized stay and failed to appear for the immigration proceeding that resulted in his removal order.
After his arrest Thursday and detention by ICE, that order was carried out quickly, Breitbart News reported.
By Friday, Yiannopoulos had been removed from the United States and returned to his native United Kingdom.
