Senate Dems Again Kill Provision to Ban Biological Boys from Girls’ Sports

Tevin McLeod - March 22, 2026

Senate Democrats have once again blocked a common-sense Republican amendment aimed at protecting women’s and girls’ sports from biological males competing as transgender athletes on the fantasy claim of “inclusion.” On Saturday, the Senate voted 49-41 along strict party lines to reject the amendment to the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) America Act.

The measure required 60 votes to advance but failed to gain the necessary support, marking the fourth time Democrats have voted down identical protections.

The amendment, known as the Protection for Women and Girls in Sports Act, was sponsored by GOP Sens. Tommy Tuberville of Alabama and Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee. It aims to prohibit federally funded schools and programs from allowing biological males, who identify as transgender women or girls, to compete in female sports categories.

Republicans introduced this amendment at the request of President Trump, who has prioritized the protection of women’s sports alongside the core goal of the SAVE America Act, which requires proof of citizenship and a photo ID to vote.

While speaking on the Senate floor, Tuberville criticized the ongoing obstruction by Democrats. “This is the fourth time that I’ve had this bill on the floor. I’ll continue to try until I’m gone,” Tuberville said. “Every time that we’ve voted on this, I have not got one single Democrat to vote for it.”

That includes the ‘moderate’ and ‘reasonable’ Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania. And like the national voter ID bill also backed by Trump and Republicans via the SAVE America Act, barring biological males from female sports is supported by some 80 percent of the nation.

“How about the trophies and awards that are stolen from young girls and ladies that work all their life to win a game or a sport … and they lose to somebody that’s much more physical, bigger, stronger and faster?” Tuberville continued.

Blackburn described the situation as “disgusting,” highlighting cases such as swimmer Lia Thomas, a biological male who transitioned from the men’s team at the University of Pennsylvania as a subpar athlete to the women’s team, where he won a national championship.

“Thank goodness President Donald Trump has tried to chase away some of the adverse actions against Title IX that were carried out during the Biden Administration,” Blackburn said. “When women would be forced to share a locker room with guys because the guy decided he was going to claim to be a female so he could compete…

“The guy couldn’t win in the guys’ category so they claimed to be women so they could take away that trophy, so they can take away that scholarship from young women. I think that’s disgusting,” said the Tennessee Republican.

Democrats championed ‘women’s rights’ and the Equal Rights Amendment for decades, not because they truly believed in women but because they knew it was another way to divide the country – just as backing the tiny percentage of ‘transgender’ athletes.

West Virginia Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R), who played college sports, added, “This is about fairness, and it’s about preserving a level playing field for women and girls who have worked hard, trained hard, and deserve the chance to compete on equal terms. Biological women competing alongside biological men is anything but fair.”

Meanwhile, another new poll shows broad bipartisan support for voter identification requirements and proof of citizenship to register, even as Democrats continue to block Republican-led efforts to impose a nationwide voter ID requirement in all federal elections.

According new polling from Frank Luntz, 80% of black voters support requiring a valid photo ID to cast a ballot versus 20 percent who don’t. Also, Hispanic voters support an ID by a 77-23 percent margin.

Generally, 80 percent of Americans support the requirement. That includes 65% of Democrats, indicating support for the policy extends well beyond party lines, CBS News reported.
