The left tried to bury Shane Gillis before most of us even knew his name or how funny he was. But seven years later, more than 76,000 people packed an NFL stadium just to hear him tell jokes.
Gee, that cancellation worked out beautifully, right?
The cancel-fest started when Gillis was hired by Saturday Night Live in 2019. He was fired four days later. He never actually appeared on the show. Old podcast clips resurfaced where he made jokes in a Chinese accent and made fun of Chinatown. Other clips were so-called “homophobic.”
Here’s a news flash for humorless liberals: comedians push boundaries, and they tell offensive jokes. They’re not some stodgy old senator delivering a foreign policy speech from Congress, for crying out loud.
But of course, none of that mattered to the left’s outrage mob. NBC immediately folded like a cheap suit, and the media treated his firing like another great victory for “decency.”
Later, SNL creator Lorne Michaels said that NBC executives made the call to fire Shane and said he was angry about it.

The people celebrating Gillis’s demise figured he’d disappear into the abyss. Instead, he released his own material, built a massive audience, landed successful specials, created a hit television series, and eventually returned to host the same show that had fired him.
This is one of his all-time great bits, featuring Trump and Obama.
But now, Shane just got the ultimate revenge. He broke the Guinness World Record for the most tickets sold to a comedy show by a solo performer.

With 76,212 tickets sold for his July 17 show at Lincoln Financial Field, the stadium home of the Philadelphia Eagles, Gillis has broken the Guinness World Record for most tickets sold for a comedy show by a solo comedian.
Guinness World Records adjudicator Andy Glass verified the official ticket sales figures and confirmed the record to Variety.
More than 76,000 people showed up to see the man the media had declared untouchable, which should tell the cancel mob everything it needs to know.

The reason cancel culture is backfiring like an old jalopy is because Americans are tired of being scolded by humorless elites. Every time the media announces that someone is now forbidden, millions of people immediately want to know what makes that person so “dangerous.”
Americans are sick and tired of watching careers get destroyed because somebody dug through years of material and found a few offensive jokes. Comedy is supposed to be offensive, risky, and inappropriate. Once comedians become terrified to cross a line, the entire art form turns into an HR diversity seminar with a cruddy two-drink minimum.
