One of music’s infamous liberal singers lashed out over the weekend regarding President Trump changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, and the White House promptly put him in his place.
As Fox News reported, John “Cougar” Mellencamp was performing in Holmdel, New Jersey, on Saturday night as part of his Dancing Words Tour – The Greatest Hits, which will enter amphitheaters around the country through August.
While performing “Pink Houses“, one of his most famous songs, Mellencamp suddenly decided to include unnecessary political commentary about the Gulf of America.
“Well, there’s people and more people/ What do they know, know, know?/ Go to work in some high rise/ And vacation down at the Gulf of Mexico,” Mellencamp sang before suddenly adding, “Wait a minute.”

He then quipped, “The Gulf of Mexico? Is that right? It’s not the Gulf of America?”
“What a stupid f**king idea.”

White House spokesman Davis Ingle responded by sharing a statement with Fox News that perfectly summed up what everyone was probably thinking about Mellencamp.
“Nobody in their right mind cares what out-of-touch, woke Hollywood celebrities have to say,” the statement read.
As TGP readers know, then-President-elect Trump held a press conference from his home in Mar-a-Lago in January 2025, where he made headlines by announcing he was changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico.

“We’re going to be changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, which has a beautiful ring that covers a lot of territory. The Gulf of America,” Trump said.
“What a beautiful name. And it’s appropriate. It’s appropriate.”
When Trump issued an executive order to make the change official, the backlash was so intense that Mexico threatened to sue America over it.

The Associated Press also defied the executive order, causing Trump to block the far-left outlet from the White House.
