Donald Trump and Elon Musk Hint at Reconciliation

President Donald Trump and Elon Musk had one of the most talked-about breakups of 2025, but in 2026, it seems like they’re trying to work things out. On January 3, the two men appeared to enjoy a meal together at Mar-a-Lago, according to RadarOnline.com. Photos and videos of the dinner also started circulating on social media, suggesting that all that drama from 2025 might’ve been for nothing.

You might remember how, at one point, Musk, who previously led the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) as a “special government employee,” accused Trump of appearing in the documents associated with the Jeffrey Epstein case, commonly referred to as “the Epstein Files.” In June 2025, Musk wrote, “Time to drop the really big bomb: @realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!”

In photos shared on social media, the two men were also joined by First Lady Melania Trump. According to RadarOnline.com, they appeared to have an “easygoing conversation” with each other even though it came just after the U.S. military operation in Venezuela.

While some social media users saw the possible reconciliation as something worth celebrating, others were pretty disgusted by it. One person on X wrote, “Elon Musk showed up at Trump’s party in Mar-a-Lago tonight, even though just a few months ago he called him a pedophile who appeared in the #EpsteinFiles. This whole spectacle is disgusting.”

Even Musk himself shared a photo from the dinner and confirmed it in a post on X. “Had a lovely dinner last night with @POTUS and @FLOTUS. 2026 is going to be amazing!” he captioned the post.

Trump previously suggested he wasn’t interested in reconciliation.

Back in June 2025, when their feud was very, very public, Trump insisted that he was “not thinking about Elon” at all, per NBC News. And that sounds exactly like something you’d expect someone to say when they definitely are thinking about someone. He also said he was “not really interested” in reconciliation, yet here we are. Then, in October 2025, he was clearly still thinking about the Tesla CEO. When speaking to reporters on Air Force One, he also seemed to blame Musk for their falling out.

“During Charlie’s beautiful tribute, Elon came up,” he said at the time. “It’s good with him. I like Elon; I’ve always liked Elon. It’s good.” Of course, given that we haven’t forgotten how messy their relationship got, “good” did not seem like the most accurate description.

But Trump told reporters that Musk was clearly just going through something at the time of the feud. “He had a bad spell, he had a bad period, he had a bad moment,” Trump said. “It was a stupid moment in his life, very stupid. I’m sure he’d tell you that. I like Elon and I suspect I’ll always like him.”

It might be a new year, but it seems like Trump and Musk aren’t willing to give up on each other just yet.
