WASHINGTON (Gray DC) – Despite a big push by President Donald Trump, the SAVE America Act has languished in the Senate. The bill would mandate a near-total ban on mail voting. Congressional Republicans say the SAVE America Act would prevent voter fraud. Voting rights groups say the bill – which would require proof of citizenship nationwide in order to register to vote – is burdensome to voters. The bill also contains unrelated provisions targeting transgender athletes and children.Leader of the Senate Democrats, Chuck Schumer of New York is opposed, “It’s an outrageous bill! An outrageous bill! And we’re going to fight it tooth and nail.”The legislation is still seven votes short of the 60 needed in the Senate to move the bill forward. Tuesday, Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) was honest about the bill’s prospects, “we don’t have the votes.”That prompted this question Gray Media’s White House correspondent Jon Decker to ask the following question at the White House Press Briefing.Jon Decker, White House Correspondent:“Yesterday, the Senate Majority Leader spoke on the efforts to potentially have the rules broken for the filibuster.
