Cheryl Hines has responded to Chelsea Handler’s comments about buying a “disastrous” house from the actor and her husband, Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

During an episode of her podcast, Dear Chelsea, earlier this month, 51-year-old comedian recalled buying the $5.9 million Los Angeles home five years ago from Hines and the current U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services. Handler claimed the house had the “most toxic environment,” and that while she’s done multiple rounds of renovations, she hasn’t been able to actually live there.

Hines has broken her silence, wondering why Handler is only now bringing up the claims about the house.

“You have to question the timing of it, because she bought this house five years ago and she’s just now complaining about it, which is also, I don’t know that she’s getting a lot of sympathy from people,” the Curb Your Enthusiasm alum said on an excerpt of an upcoming episode of the Tomi Lahren is Fearless podcast, obtained by People.

“She’s buying a $6 million house. And talking about how she feels duped and that we tried to sell her a house that was, her word, ‘toxic,’ which also doesn’t make sense. The story doesn’t really hold water.”

She confirmed Handler’s previous claim that Hines and Kennedy wrote the comedian a note when she bought the home in Brentwood.

“I did write her a personal note when she moved in, just saying how much we love the house. And I hope that she has a beautiful life in this house. And if you need anything, call me. And I left my number,” she added. “So, I don’t know, if we were trying to unload a toxic house on her, I wouldn’t have left my number.”

Hines went on to accuse Handler of just “trying to get attention,” claiming it was “probably fun” for her to mock Kennedy.

“So, what are you going to do? She’s trying to get a laugh, I guess, and some likes,” Hines concluded.

Earlier this month, Handler first made the remarks about the home she bought from Kennedy and Hines being “f***ed up.”

“The idea that this guy is in charge of the health of our country when he didn’t even have a proper foundation at his house,” she said on her podcast. According to Handler, a home inspector told her that the property had “the most toxic environment,” and said she couldn’t live there for at least two years.

“I’m not exaggerating any of this,” she continued. “It was a disaster, and I didn’t know it going in because everything was, you know, under wraps.”

Handler said that after multiple rounds of renovations, it was not until the “last week of inspection” that she discovered another issue.

“They’re like, ‘Oh, there’s a unit.’ There’s been a little outdoor storage unit that’s been there since I bought it. And they’re like, ‘This is illegal,’” Handler added. “So now we have to remove [Kennedy’s] illegal bulls*** from my property. And I’m like, how did they not find this upon the first inspection?”

Handler addressed the note that Haines left, asking if there was anything she and Kennedy could do for her. “I’m like, yeah, how about a f***ing foundation? That’s something you could do for me,” she quipped.

She also slammed Kennedy and his career, calling him “the embodiment of everything that is wrong with this administration.”

Property records show that the home, located in the Mandeville Canyon neighborhood, was purchased by Handler via a trust that is registered under her sister Simone’s name, according to Realtor.com. The final sale date is listed as October 14, 2021. The home, built in 1937, has five bedrooms, a spacious backyard and a pool, according to Curbed.
