Could the CDC be one of the most mistrusted government institutions? Sure, that’s a bold statement, since so many of our institutions are wrought with fraud, but after all the lies and propaganda that went down with COVID, the CDC took a huge hit.
The CDC was founded in 1946. It started to control malaria during WWII, and was supposed to protect public health from infectious disease. That was the original mission. Very straightforward, practical, and easy for ordinary people to understand and support.
Those were the good ol’ days. Now look at it.
That’s why for millions of Americans, the CDC isn’t some trusted public health group. It now just another bloated political institution that allowed the COVID fiasco to destroy its last bit of credibility. These were the people who lectured the country about (useless) masks and a sketchy vaccine. They silenced dissent like medical gestapos, buried facts that didn’t mesh with their political agenda, changed the rules as they went, and acted like anyone who asked questions was some kind of dangerous Q-kook. They exposed themselves, and once that happened, a lot of Americans stopped seeing “experts” and started seeing activists in lab coats.
Trust is dropping like a sack of hammers.
The Hill:
A poll published Thursday found that Americans have lost trust in federal health institutions and are more likely to say they trust independent, professional medical organizations when it comes to advice on topics like vaccination.
The February survey by the Annenberg Public Policy Center (APPC) of the University of Pennsylvania found that public trust in agencies like the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) had fallen by 5 to 7 percentage points in the past year.
Public trust in these institutions had been declining prior to 2025, however, having fallen from around 75 percent to 67 percent during the final year of the Biden administration.
And now, the highly respected Dr. Malone is adding to the CDC rubble by suggesting there’s a dangerous mole working inside the CDC.
If there really is a mole or saboteur operating inside the CDC, that would make sense and further prove how this agency isn’t a neutral public health institution. It’s operating more like a left-wing NGO, with political players protecting themselves, the COVID narrative, and working against President Trump and RFK Jr.’s MAHA.
Dr. Malone believes the DCD is an agency that is rotted and beyond repair.

That is the backdrop to everything else happening inside the CDC right now.Malone describes the environment as guerrilla warfare. When Kennedy asked him to stay on, he said no.
His assessment was direct: The CDC is not redeemable, and the people still entrenched inside are carrying the safe and effective narrative because many of them have culpability around the COVID crisis – including suppression of information and manipulation of data.
As for why he stepped down entirely, Malone was equally plain. Through thousands of hours of work, the 17 highly trained professionals were treated like chattel, told what to say and when to say it, told not to discuss vaccine harms, and told not to recommend pulling PREP Act liability protections.
There was no cover provided when the attacks came. They lost grants, had their careers damaged, and were isolated.

What a mess.
So, basically, the same institutional rot that helped bulldoze the public during COVID is still being protected from the inside by bad actors. These types aren’t just hanging on to old lies; Malone says they’re still working hard to preserve the narrative, suppress the damage, and block anyone who might finally share the truth and demand accountability.
At this point, the CDC’s legitimacy problem is getting bigger when it should be shrinking. Americans already watched this institution choose narrative over truth during COVID.

Now we’re seeing that the internal culture may be even darker and more political than many realized. Is the CDC fixable? Probably not without a full top-down overhaul.
