The memorandum of understanding between the U.S. and Iran will be signed on Sunday, President Trump shared on Truth Social. He said once the deal is signed, the Strait of Hormuz will immediately be reopened. The agreement would also stop Iran from pursuing a nuclear weapon, the president said.”My Agreement with Iran is the exact opposite [of the JCPOA], A WALL TO NO NUCLEAR WEAPON!” Mr. Trump wrote. “In fact, they no longer want a Nuclear Weapon, nor will they have one, either through purchase, development, or any other form of procurement.”Frozen Iranian assets were said to be a key point in the discussion, but Mr. Trump said Saturday, “no money will exchange hands.”Earlier Saturday, a spokesperson for Iran’s foreign ministry said there was no agreement on nuclear issues and those would be discussed after the agreement was signed. Mr. Trump, in Saturday’s message, referred only to the so-called “nuclear dust,” resulting from the bombing last year of several nuclear sites.”At the appropriate time, when all is calm, we will go in and get the Nuclear Dust, buried deep under the powerful sunken granite mountains, thanks to our beautiful B-2 Bombers and their brilliant pilots, and downblend and destroy it, whether in Iran, or the United States,” he said. The president ended his post with somewhat-tempered expectations for the signing, which Iran has already said would not happen on Sunday, but sometime in the near future.”Hopefully, this process will all work out quickly, easily, and smoothly,” the president wrote. “If it doesn’t, we have the ultimate alternative, hopefully never to be used again!”
