Trump Hails Iran Peace Deal, Touts JD Vance Role as Macron Offers Praise

Tevin McLeod - June 15, 2026

President Donald Trump arrived at the G7 Summit in France on Monday, riding high after securing a major peace agreement with Iran.

Using bilateral talks with French President Emmanuel Macron to highlight the deal’s success, the president spoke highly of Vice President JD Vance’s key involvement.

In on-camera remarks alongside Macron, Trump detailed the agreement’s impact.

“The Iran deal that we made is going to bring a lot of success to the world because the oil was really clogged up there (Strait of Hormuz) for a while,” Trump said.

Then Trump shared 5 words that everyone has waited for: “The agreement is completely signed.”

He added that the strait “is going to be opened in a toll-free way” and emphasized, “The agreement is completely signed. And the Strait of Hormuz is already partially opened. And the main thing is that Iran will not have a nuclear weapon.”

Trump revealed that Macron personally reached out to him about soaring energy prices.

He thanked the French leader: “I want to thank you (French President Emmanuel Macron) for your help.”

The president also noted Vance’s central role, saying the vice president is expected to travel to Geneva for the formal signing ceremony. Trump indicated he may join depending on his G7 schedule.

Macron, who has been cautiously supportive, praised the breakthrough.

Macron described it as a “very important peace deal” and stressed the need to secure long-term reopening of the Strait of Hormuz; support for regional stability, including Lebanon; and firm limits on Iran’s nuclear and ballistic programs.

The developments come as Trump shifts focus to other global challenges.

“We had a very good conversation yesterday with President Zelenskyy and President Putin,” Trump noted.

“I see maybe we can do something. I think they are both open to it. So I think now that this (Iran crisis) is finished, we are going to be focusing on that and see if we can get that one done,” Trump added.

The Iran agreement — digitally signed with Vance’s involvement — has already begun easing global energy pressures, a clear win for Trump’s America First diplomacy as he engages skeptical allies at the summit.

President Trump announced Sunday that a peace deal with Iran had finally been reached.

Iran’s Supreme National Security Council also announced Sunday that Tehran and Washington have finalized a memorandum of understanding aimed at formally ending the conflict after months of negotiations.

In a statement, the council said all military operations across several theaters, including those involving Iranian-backed forces in Lebanon, will cease “immediately and permanently” beginning Sunday night.

Under the reported framework, negotiations on a broader and more comprehensive agreement will begin only after both sides have fulfilled the commitments outlined in the initial memorandum.

The memorandum is reportedly scheduled to be formally signed on June 19 and would launch a 60-day negotiating period focused on Iran’s nuclear program and the terms of a wider long-term agreement between the two countries.

“The Deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete. Congratulations to all!” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

“I hereby fully authorize the toll free opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and, simultaneously herewith, authorize the immediate removal of the United States Naval blockade. Ships of the World, start your engines. Let the oil flow!” he added.

In a follow-on post, the president said, “This Great Deal will bring Peace and Security to the whole Region. Many presidents have tried to make Peace with Iran, and all have failed before me.

“The Leaders of the Region have, for the first time, found a President who can help them achieve real Peace,” Trump said.

“With the opening of the Strait upon the signing of the Deal on Friday, for purposes of mine removal, oil will flow on both ends again for the Region, and the World!” he noted further.
