U.S. Rep. Tim Burchett, R-Tenn., won the Republican primary for Tennessee’s 2nd Congressional District on Thursday, facing no primary challenger and earning another opportunity to seek reelection in November.
Burchett will face Democrat Michaela Barnett, who also ran unopposed in her party’s primary, along with independent candidates Bruce Fine and Adam Heimerman in the general election.

Tennessee’s 2nd Congressional District is centered on Knoxville and stretches north to the Kentucky border and south into Blount County.

“He’s in it, but he’s the one that’s being denied,” Burchett said when asked about Trump’s role, suggesting the president himself does not have full access to all government records related to unidentified anomalous phenomena.
Burchett also described the ongoing dispute over classified UAP information as “a fistfight” that he believes has been taking place since 1947.
The congressman’s reference to 1947 appeared to point to the year of the Roswell incident in New Mexico, one of the most well-known events associated with UFO speculation.
At the time, the U.S. Army initially announced that it had recovered a “flying disc” before later stating that the debris was from a weather balloon, an explanation that has remained the official government position despite decades of public speculation.

Burchett argued that resistance to greater disclosure crosses party lines and is rooted in career government officials rather than elected leaders.
He described the system as being “crooked as a dog’s leg,” while suggesting that bureaucratic resistance has continued across multiple administrations.
The Tennessee Republican has become one of Congress’ most prominent advocates for increased government transparency regarding UAP investigations.
