Elon Musk, Sam Altman, Jensen Huang and other prominent technology executives are set to take part in a technology-focused Group of 20 ministerial meeting in North Carolina next week. The United States seeks international support for a lighter approach to artificial intelligence regulation.
SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, Meta executive Dina Powell McCormick and venture capitalist David Sacks are among the technology leaders scheduled to participate in the G20 gathering, as reported by the Economic Times.
The meeting is scheduled for September 1 and 2 in Raleigh, North Carolina. Musk, Sacks and Powell McCormick are expected to participate virtually on September 1, while Altman and Huang are scheduled to appear on September 2, according to a source familiar with the event.
The gathering is part of a series of meetings leading up to the G20 leaders summit in Miami in December. Technology and commerce officials from G20 member countries are expected to discuss artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies.
The Trump administration plans to use the meeting to encourage G20 countries to adopt a non-binding framework favoring a light-touch approach to AI regulation.

Under the proposed approach, countries would be encouraged to avoid creating new regulatory agencies for artificial intelligence and instead work with private companies to test emerging technologies, according to a White House official.
“We look forward to robust discussions on smarter regulatory approaches, lower barriers to AI adoption and strong workforce development initiatives that will drive global economic prosperity,” Michael Kratsios, the White House technology adviser, said in a statement.
Altman is also expected to participate in a fireside chat with Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, where he will discuss upcoming developments in AI technology. A spokesperson for Huang declined to comment on his participation.

The gathering comes as governments around the world grapple with how to regulate rapidly developing AI systems while maintaining investment and innovation. The United States has increasingly emphasized cooperation with technology companies rather than establishing new regulatory structures.
The G20 discussions could therefore provide an important forum for Washington to promote its preferred approach to AI governance among major economies. The meeting will also bring together some of the most influential figures in the global technology industry at a time when AI investment, computing infrastructure and emerging technologies are becoming increasingly important to economic policy.
The G20 leaders’ summit is scheduled to take place in Miami in December, with technology and AI expected to remain among the major issues on the agenda.
