Suddenly, refugees are controversial again.
The Trump administration is preparing to make room for more South African whites. An additional 17,500 will be heading to the US over the next year, and CBS News devoted a big report to the decision.
The framing is pretty clear…
Trump has dramatically restricted refugee admissions for most of the world, but his admin is carving out an exception for Afrikaners, the white ethnic minority whose families have lived in South Africa for generations and who’ve been targeted by radical blacks.
They’re facing race-based discrimination, threats to their property, and violence.
The corrupt South African government says that’s not true. It’s just “soaring crime,” and nothing racial.
Meanwhile black leaders are chanting death threats to white people on camera, and the murders just keep piling up.

Over the past 20 years, more than 2,000 farmers have been killed in South Africa. Unlike ordinary home invasions, these attacks usually involve torture, with numerous incidents involving babies being drowned, women being raped in front of their husbands, and boiling water being thrown over victims’ bodies before they are killed. Many people call this genocide.
Trump has used that term, but the corrupt South African government predictably rejects it.
But even if you put that word aside for a minute, there’s still a much bigger story sitting underneath all this.
South Africa is dealing with serious crime, economic stagnation, crumbling public services, failing infrastructure, and a long-running fight over race-based policy and land.
The State Department’s argument is as straightforward as it gets: it says Afrikaners face discriminatory government policies, threats to property rights, and rhetoric connected to violence against racial minorities.
That’s a legit reason to seek help.
CBS News:
The Trump administration is planning to welcome up to 17,500 additional White Afrikaners from South Africa as refugees over the next 12 months, according to a notice sent to Congress on Tuesday and obtained by CBS News.
The State Department informed congressional officials that the Trump administration is planning to allocate 17,500 refugee spots for fiscal year 2027, and that they will “primarily” go to Afrikaners, who President Trump has claimed are being oppressed for being White. Fiscal year 2027 starts in October.
While the second Trump administration has effectively shut down the U.S. refugee resettlement program for most people fleeing persecution and violence around the world, it has made an exemption for Afrikaners, resettling thousands of them over the past year and a half.
Trump administration officials have portrayed Afrikaners as victims of racial oppression in post-apartheid South Africa. The South African government has consistently denied persecuting the ethnic minority, made up of descendants of European settlers, mostly from the Netherlands.
“Afrikaners face the seizure of agricultural property without compensation; government policies designed to dismantle equal opportunity in employment, education, and business; and hateful rhetoric fueling disproportionate violence against racially disfavored minorities,” the State Department said in its notice to Congress.
So, yes, there’s an actual fight over how race, land, opportunity, and government power are being handled in “modern” South Africa.
And that’s where the violence comes in. And according to the people being attacked, it’s not your everyday burglar showing up.
And of course, CBS News does everything they can, except actually investigate to claim “genocide” isn’t real. They just quote a 60 Minutes piece.

Mr. Trump has alleged that Afrikaners face a “genocide” in South Africa. In a tense Oval Office meeting last year, he confronted South African President Cyril Ramaphosa on the claims, showing him a video that spotlighted murders of farmers in the country.
Those claims have been strongly disputed. A “60 Minutes” report earlier this year featured Afrikaners who rejected the notion that White people are facing a “genocide” and said murders on farms were linked to a broader crime problem in South Africa that harms members of all races.
The fact of the matter is that South Africa is crumbling. It’s a hellhole now.
Roads, buildings, public spaces, and basic city services look nothing like the image many people remember from the country’s more optimistic years.

The decay is everywhere. South Africa has struggled with declining state capacity, infrastructure failures, unemployment, and weak economic growth since the white leaders were ousted.
It is difficult to call South Africa a “developing” country when their development is actually going into reverse.
It’s all the more amazing because there are now parts of Kigali, Addis Ababa and even Mogadishu which look nice. Johannesburg by contrast is just completely…

We’ve been writing about the downfall of South Africa for years.
South Africa didn’t just change governments after apartheid…
It rebuilt enormous parts of its political and economic system around race, equity, redistribution, and transformation. They rebuilt on “CRT” or Critical Race Theory.
But this was a disaster in the making. Critics warned that once government begins handing out opportunity and economic power according to race, merit and competence can get pushed aside.

The meltdown in South Africa isn’t a natural disaster or a random fluke. It’s a choice. South Africa was the first modern nation to be refounded on the anti-white principles of Critical Race Theory, and now it is reaping the whirlwind of that choice.
South Africa did everything that is being done in America right now. As a hyperdiverse, multiethnic, multilingual society, South Africa has followed almost every prescription embraced by the globalist ruling class.
This is about more than riots. This wave of violence will eventually peter out. But there is no reason to be optimistic when that happens. There will be no sense of having survived a calamity and having a chance to rebuild. When this wave of burning, looting, and killing is over, there will be nothing to look forward to but the next wave.
The specter of doom hangs over South Africa. The optimism that peaked when the country hosted the 2010 World Cup is now gone. Despite being warned for years about failing water infrastructure, local governments ignored the problem, and now the country has routine, severe water crises. South Africa began experiencing rolling blackouts in 2007 and has battled them ever since. Even the government says the blackouts will likely continue for at least five more years. Hint: Bet your money that they last even longer.
Despite being the “economic superpower” of Sub-Saharan Africa, South Africa’s brain drain is significant and accelerating. Those who have options are abandoning the country. More than four percent of all deaths are murders, and the murder rate is somehow *still *rising; last year it rose by 8.4 percent. But it’s not just about day-to-day violence. It’s the expectation for what is to come.
South Africa’s dominant African National Congress party is corrupt and ineffective, but its most dangerous rival is one of the most radical political parties to enjoy representation on Earth. The Economic Freedom Fighters vow to seize white-owned land (without payment), nationalize the banking and mining sectors, and double welfare payments.
But EFF isn’t a radical outlier in South African politics. It’s the natural endgame for the country’s post-apartheid ideology. For decades, the South African economy has been shaped by a policy known as Broad-Based Black Economic Employment. Despite its name, there is nothing “based” about BBBEE. Instead, the policy uses the same tactics to achieve “equity” that activists in the United States are demanding.
A few years later, we reported on Harvard’s Growth Lab’s massive report documenting how badly South Africa’s economy and public institutions were performing.

You all know how well things went. But what’s incredible is that now even Harvard is giving up on the country.
Courtesy of the university’s “Growth Lab” at the Center for International Development, we have a lengthy 178-page paper titled “Growth Through Inclusion in South Africa.” But despite the title, the paper is actually about how the drive for “inclusion” has caused growth to disappear from the unfortunate country:
South Africa’s economy is stagnating and, in fact, losing capabilities, export diversity, and competitiveness. While the racial composition of wealth at the top has changed, wealth concentration in South Africa has not and remains very high. Moreover, the broader structures of the economy have not allowed for the inclusion of the labor and talents of South Africans — black, white, and otherwise.
The report is a gruesome, piece-by-piece dissection of South Africa’s failed economy, dressed up in just enough euphemisms to be publishable while allowing the more alert and informed to see the truth.
Income per capita has been falling for over a decade. Unemployment at over 33% is the world’s highest, and youth unemployment exceeds 60%. Poverty has risen to 55.5% based on the national poverty line, yet many more households depend on government transfers to sustain meager livelihoods.
Things are so bad that South Africa is getting utterly, devastatingly clowned on by Mexico, of all countries.
South Africa was once a thriving country. Now it’s a dirt pile, filled with hopelessness, poverty, crime, and racism.
Thankfully President Trump has taken steps to bring these Afrikaners here, because they truly meet America’s refugee standard.
