Elon Musk will return to the White House, where President Donald Trump will present him with one of the nation’s highest honors for scientific achievement.
Trump will award Musk the National Medal of Science on October 8 during the White House’s Science: A New Golden Age Summit.
Trump set to present prestigious science and technology medals
Thursday’s ceremony will be the first time Trump will personally present the National Medal of Science and the National Medal of Technology and Innovation.
The ceremony will also gather leading figures in American technology.
Google co-founder Sergey Brin, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, and AMD CEO Lisa Su will also receive the National Medal of Science. Dell Technologies CEO Michael Dell and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella will receive the National Medal of Technology and Innovation, according to Fox News Digital.
Musk returns to Trump’s orbit
Musk’s visit to the White House marks another step in his renewed relationship with Trump following their public fallout last year.
The Tesla and SpaceX CEO left the Trump administration after serving with the Department of Government Efficiency.
Musk later criticized Trump’s tax-and-spending legislation as a “disgusting abomination.” Their disagreement escalated into a public feud, and Trump threatened Musk’s government contracts.
Recently, Musk appeared with Trump at a lunch with technology leaders and attended Chinese President Xi Jinping‘s visit to the United States.
Musk is also involved in Project Meridian, a Pentagon initiative focused on the evolving nature of warfare and future military technology needs.
White House summit puts innovation in focus
The White House summit will address the role of scientific innovation, artificial intelligence, and private-sector investment in maintaining American technological leadership.
White House spokesperson Liz Huston told Fox News Digital that the administration is grateful for the honorees’ contributions, describing them as leaders who help the United States remain at the forefront of innovation.
Trump’s medal ceremony has a family connection
The summit is expected to bring together scientists and technology executives to discuss “super intelligence” and strategies to accelerate scientific breakthroughs through technological development and private investment.
The National Medal of Science is also part of Trump’s family history. In 1985, his uncle John G. Trump was honored during Ronald Reagan‘s presidency for research on ionizing radiation and its applications in medicine, industry, and atomic physics.
