Kristi Leigh sits down with Dr. Christiane Northrup, board-certified OB-GYN with over 40 years in women’s health and author of three New York Times bestsellers, for a revealing conversation on breast health. Dr. Northrup explains that autopsy studies show 40% of women who died of other causes had some degree of ductal carcinoma in situ — what they call stage zero — and 99% of those never go on to become invasive cancer. Yet the pink campaign trains women to see their breasts as pre-malignant lesions that must be constantly monitored. She says if dentists treated teeth the way doctors treat breasts, we would all have our teeth pulled to prevent possible decay.
Dr. Northrup reveals that women with breast cancer have the lowest vitamin D levels, and that iodine directly counteracts too much estrogen. Japanese women do not get breast cancer because they eat so much seaweed. She shares the bio-symbolic story of a woman whose breast cyst appeared the night she dreamed of nursing her daughter who had just left for college — the cyst was full of milk. She explains that breasts are about giving and receiving nourishment, and when that balance is off, it can show up in the breast. She also discusses the emotional factors, the 300% increase in prophylactic mastectomies, and why she has never had a mammogram.
The conversation covers cortisol as the monster in the room, perimenopause as adolescence in reverse, the dangers of statins, and why cholesterol is essential for the brain and breast health. Dr. Northrup warns that the number needed to treat for a statin is 100, while the number needed to harm is 10. She shares how Covid was the moment she was canceled — losing her Instagram, being named one of the Disinformation Dozen, and finding her faith at Rhema Bible College, where she met John Michael Chambers. She closes with simple advice: put your hands on your breasts and tell them, “Girls, you’re safe with me.”
