Left-Wing Podcaster’s Remarks About Vance Draw Huge Backlash

Tevin McLeod - October 24, 2026

A left-wing media personality’s attack the vice president of the United States has ignited criticism over violent imagery and increasingly personal political rhetoric.

The controversy centers on language directed at JD Vance during a discussion about the next presidential election.

Podcaster Jennifer Welch used the phrase “pistols firing” while discussing opposition to Vance and his presidential future.

The remarks came during a segment associated with her political podcast, which has attracted prominent Democratic guests.

Her comments mixed opposition to Vance’s political ambitions with personal attacks involving his marriage, children and fitness for public office.

Welch’s argument portrayed Vance as someone seeking to inherit President Donald Trump’s political movement.

She attacked his relationship with billionaire supporter Peter Thiel and offered disparaging characterizations of both men.

Those descriptions were Welch’s opinions and accusations, rather than independently established facts about either individual.

The gun imagery became the central flashpoint as excerpts circulated online and conservative commentators responded.

🚨 HOLY CRAP, arrest Jennifer Welch, NOW!! “Vance thinks he’s gonna be president…we need to keep FIRING, PISTOLS FIRING, at ALL TIMES, towards this guy. He is not fit to be a father. He is not fit to be a husband. He is not fit to be a Vice President.” In the same rant she called Vance an “Antichrist-style sociopath” and a “white nationalist prostitute bigot” Secret Service needs to look into this. She might be sparking new threats against Vance and she knows it.

Breitbart columnist John Nolte argued that her rhetoric deserved attention from the Secret Service.

His column framed the remarks as especially troubling because Welch has interviewed prominent figures within the Democratic Party.

Nolte listed former President Barack Obama and former Vice President Kamala Harris among those guests.

He also identified House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Senator Elizabeth Warren and Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Those appearances establish political access, but they do not establish that any guest endorsed this particular segment.

Nolte nevertheless argued that Welch’s connections make her language more consequential than remarks from an obscure online account.

He characterized her comments as dehumanizing and accused her of encouraging violence against the vice president.

That conclusion reflects Nolte’s interpretation of the segment, rather than an announced finding by law enforcement.

Other conservative commentators similarly objected to combining firearm imagery with personal denunciations of a public official.

Writing for LifeNews, Gary Bauer called for the Secret Service to visit Welch over the remarks.

Bauer also referenced an earlier dispute involving her podcast’s criticism of Christians and families who educate children at home.

He said he had previously responded to that material through his own commentary.

His latest criticism focused on the danger he perceived in language aimed at the nation’s second-highest elected official.

The Post Millennial reported additional backlash from conservative figures and other commentators responding to the circulating video.

Journalist Jason Cohen offered a concise assessment: “Welch crossed the line here.”

Turning Point USA spokesman Andrew Kolvet rejected accusations of racism and white supremacy directed at conservatives.

His response also criticized Welch personally, illustrating how the exchange quickly expanded beyond the original podcast segment.

Former Los Angeles mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt likewise condemned the remarks in a strongly worded social media response.

The criticism focused on Welch’s choice of imagery, rather than simply her desire to defeat Republicans in an election.

That distinction matters because advocating an electoral defeat is a routine and legitimate feature of American political debate.

References to firing weapons at an identifiable person create a different controversy, even when delivered as political metaphor.

The broader segment included electoral language, and reporting described her objective as defeating Vance at the ballot box.

That context should accompany the disputed phrase when assessing what was said.

The available reporting does not establish an operational plot, a criminal charge or an announced Secret Service investigation.

Calls from commentators for authorities to act should therefore be distinguished from confirmation that authorities have actually taken action.

Likewise, the segment does not establish that Vance has formally launched a campaign for the 2028 Republican presidential nomination.

Welch was discussing a possible political future and presenting her own assessment of his ambitions.
