CHINESE SPY ARRESTED INFILTRATING U.S. GOVERNMENT

A city council woman and mayor of Arcadia, California pled guilty to charges of acting as a foreign agent of the Chinese Government. Her name is Eileen Wang, a 58 year old Chinese female working in the U.S. local government. Tensions between the US and China have been rising for many years now. Whether that is from trade, military, or political issues; it has been known for some time that China has been planting spies inside our universities, and government infrastructure. There have even been instances of Chinese spies having affairs with US law makers and other leadership. This is just the next iteration of this issue. We now have a confirmed case of a Chinese spy actually holding office in America.

So, what is the evidence? Wang was discovered to be working with a man named Yaoning Sun on a news site called “US News Center”. This news site was aimed at immigrant Chinese populations in California, and blatantly spread pro CCP (Chinese Communist Party) propaganda. Even more damning is the fact that Chinese officials reportedly would write positive comments on US News Center articles. Wang was seen replying to these comments saying, “Thank you leader”. On top of this, Wang did not even try to combat these claims in a court of law. Wang took a plea deal, a felony plea deal. Essentially meaning she admitted to the crime voluntarily, and could be facing up to 10 years in federal prison.

Questions have come up as to how much more Chinese infiltration has occurred in our government. According to an NPR article, a statement was obtained via Nicholas Eftimiades (a former US intelligence official), regarding rising Chinese intelligence operations in America. Eftimiades stated, “We’ve certainly seen a number of cases of China attempting to recruit lower level officials on long term approaches so that they can conduct covert influence on the United States.” How many more Chinese spies have made their way into our government over the years?

The democrat party recently had a Chinese spy scare during their controversy with Rep Eric Swalwell. Swalwell was exposed for having a relationship with a suspected Chinese spy known as “Fang Fang”. Fang Fang was a huge part of Swalwell’s fundraising operation during his election. Fang Fang was also seen rubbing elbows with other prominent democrat politicians in California. The FBI has released statements suspecting that Fang Fang was a part of a large espionage operation to influence the democrat party. Swalwell and FBI director Kash Patel have been in online clashes recently over the “Fang Fang files”. Patel’s FBI apparently has large amounts of documentation of the espionage conducted by Fang Fang, and wishes to release it for public viewing. Swalwell is threatening legal action in response.

With tensions between America and China growing, and a potential conflict surrounding Taiwan on the horizon, one can only wonder how much influence China actually has in our country. Hopefully, with the help of the FBI, we can investigate and prosecute the spies in our nation; and prevent any more from making their way in. With Trump’s recent positive interactions with Xi Jinping during his trip to Beijing, we can only hope the espionage will come to an end.
