Fox News viewers slammed U.S. AG Pam Bondi for claming that American citizenship is a “privilage”
U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi is being slammed by Fox viewers for calling American citizenship a “privilege.”
Bondi made the false claims during a Fox News panel on Friday, much to viewers’ aghast.
“Being a citizen in our country is a privilege, not a right. And Donald Trump is going to have everyone in this country who deserves to be here, who is a citizen,” Bondi said during a guest appearance on the conservative television network.
Despite Bondi’s claims, the 14th Amendment is a constitutional right for those born or naturalized in the U.S. It guarantees birthright citizenship for those born in the 50 states or most territories.

Social media users were quick to point that fact out.
“It’s literally a right under the 14th Amendment,” one user pointed out.
“Calling citizenship a ‘privilege’ kinda/sorta/definitely ignores how the Constitution works. If you’re a citizen, that’s a protected right – full stop, not something a president gets to hand out or take away based on who they think ‘deserves’ it,” an X user said.
Another X user questioned whether the Trump administration would revoke citizenship based on its own derived standards.
“So… are they saying they can just take the citizenship away from everyone they judge not deserving of it?”
Others joked about taking away Bondi’s citizenship.
“I guess we can revoke Bondi’s citizenship during the next administration,” a user chimed in.
Some challenged the Trump administration to challenge the 14th Amendment if they want to set their own citizenship standards.
Being born in America literally grants you the RIGHT of American citizenship, per the Fourteenth Amendment, dummy. Don’t like it? Amend it,” the commenter wrote.

“The US Constitution would like a word as the Founding Fathers roll over…” a user chimed in.
Since the start of his second term, President Trump has been fixated on ending birthright citizenship, particularly for the children of migrants who are either in the country illegally or on temporary visas.
On his first day in office, President Donald Trump issued an executive order aimed at ending birthright citizenship for babies of undocumented immigrants and for people with temporary status in the U.S. Executive Order 14156: Protecting the Meaning and Value of American Citizenship. The order argued that “the Fourteenth Amendment has always excluded from birthright citizenship persons who were born in the United States but not ‘subject to the jurisdiction thereof.’”
Trump’s executive orders faced immediate legal backlash, as several federal judges from across the country blocked their implementation immediately after the orders’ signing, ruling that they were unconstitutional. However, in June 2025, the Supreme Court ruled that district courts couldn’t authorize nationwide injunctions of the executive order.
