Bondi: Schimel continuing to oversee Wisconsin cases | News

- March 22, 2026

MILWAUKEE — U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi is allowing Brad Schimel to continue overseeing cases in Wisconsin.

This follows a decision by federal judges last week to not extend his appointment as interim U.S. attorney.

Bondi appointed Schimel to a 120-day term in November, which was set to expire this week.

Schimel will continue in the role but under a new title: first assistant U.S. attorney.

He previously served as the Waukesha County district attorney before winning election as Wisconsin attorney general in 2014, a position he held until losing in 2018.

Most recently, he ran for State Supreme Court last year but lost to Justice Susan Crawford.
