Bruce Springsteen delivers political speech in Minneapolis, criticising Donald Trump, Pam Bondi and US policies

Bruce Springsteen used the opening night of his 2026 “Land of Hope and Dreams” tour in Minneapolis to deliver a series of political remarks, including criticism of President Donald Trump, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and broader US policies.

Performing with the E Street Band, Springsteen incorporated four speeches into the three-hour, 27-song set. His comments followed earlier statements made at a “No Kings” rally and during previous tour appearances.

Addressing the audience mid-show, Springsteen said, “We are living through some very dark times. Our American values that have sustained us for 250 years are being challenged as never before.”

He continued with references to immigration, foreign policy and domestic governance, stating: “There are immigrants being held in detention centres around the country and being deported without due process of law to alien countries and foreign gulags. This is happening now.”

Springsteen also criticised the Department of Justice, saying: “Our Justice Department has completely abdicated its independence, and our Attorney General Pam Bondi takes her marching orders straight from a corrupt White House.”

He added further criticism directed at economic inequality and international alliances, stating: “The richest men in America have abandoned the world’s poorest children through death and disease, through their dismantling of USAID. This is happening now.”

In another segment, he said, “You want to talk about snowflakes? We have a president who can’t handle the truth. This is happening now.”

Springsteen concluded by encouraging audience participation, asking: “So join us and let’s fight for the America that we love. Are you with us?”

Prior to the tour, Springsteen told the Minnesota Star-Tribune he expected criticism for the political tone of the shows, stating: “The blowback is just part of it. I’m ready for all that.”

The tour continues across the United States through Memorial Day weekend.
