If you’ve been paying attention, you’ve probably noticed that the MAGA women are an interesting lot. From the MAGA women with eyebrow raising marriages to their shared affinity for the Republican vest trend style movement that lasted a little too long, it’s clear that these ladies have more in common than just their politics. In fact, their similarities extend into makeup as well, with each one almost trying to outdo the next in beauty failures.

While not every women in the MAGA world has jumped on the Mar-a-Lago face plastic surgery trend, where many of them do seem to overlap is in their cakey makeup. But here’s the thing that MAGA women haven’t quite figured out: Cakey makeup can be avoided. Although thoroughly washing your face and moisturizing regularly helps foundation sit better on the skin, primer is the step that can make or break a look. “Think of it like this: When you give your walls a fresh coat of paint, you first use a paint primer to even out the surface and make your color last as long as possible,” celebrity makeup artist Min Min Ma told Oprah Daily. “The same goes for primer on your skin.”

It’s hard to say exactly what these MAGA women are getting wrong that’s causing cakey makeup. For some, they could be skipping primer, while for others, they may just have a heavy hand when it comes to applying foundation. No matter the reason, we’re hoping they’ll evolve into smoother territories soon.

Even Melania Trump is guilty of caking on the foundation

Although Melania Trump tends to be a cut above the rest of the MAGA women in both fashion and beauty, as evidenced in this picture, she’s also guilty of a cakey makeup moment. Something Trump should consider, especially now that she’s in her 50s, is that her skin isn’t what it used to be and, therefore, needs to be treated differently. She needs to know what to look for in foundation for mature skin and, most importantly, realize that less is more when it comes to makeup application.

Pam Bondi is no stranger to beauty mistakes

Kristi Noem could teach a masterclass in cakey makeup

Of all the MAGA women, no one does cakey quite like Kristi Noem. Although she uses filters on Instagram to blur her uneven complexion, in the real world she doesn’t have that luxury, so she opts for a boatload of foundation — as well as heavy eye makeup and brow penciling — none of which is helping. “People think … acne scars require heavy, full-coverage foundation, but too many layers will actually emphasize your skin’s texture and draw attention to acne,” makeup artist Robin Black told Allure. When foundation creeps into any scars, they’re immediately amplified.

Lauren Boebert is too young for this epic level of cakey

At only 39 (at the time of writing), Lauren Boebert is the perfect example of someone who looks older perhaps due to their makeup mistakes. Not only does Boebert really layer on the foundation, but based on the texture it creates, she also might be skipping primer. Another error that Boebert makes with her makeup, is she seems blind to her skin tone. For example, here she’s far too orange, proving again that Boebert can’t seem to nail her fake tan, while other times, she’s too pasty. In other words, Boebert needs a lesson in undertones, so she uses the correct foundation shade.

Karoline Leavitt gets her shade right, but that’s all

As not only the youngest person in this piece, but the youngest White House press secretary in U.S. history, it’s perplexing that Karoline Leavitt feels the need to use as much foundation as she does. Especially since when you strip away Leavitt’s makeup, she has a beautiful, glowing complexion that, ultimately, doesn’t really need foundation. If anything, she should be enjoying her youthful skin, sticking to a skincare routine that includes daily moisturizer and SPF, and something that offers a dewy finish, instead of one that’s heavy and powdery.

Katie Miller has also fallen prey to foundation mistakes

While Katie Miller, wife of Stephen Miller, with whom she has one heck of a weird marriage, doesn’t usually wear a lot of makeup, unlike the rest of the MAGA women, she is still guilty of caking on the foundation. As seen in this photo, Miller has used so much foundation that it’s settled into the fine line in her forehead and under her eyes, creating a less-than-flattering look. Miller also appears to be in need of some lip balm or something similar. After all, lips need more attention than we probably give them.

Lara Trump’s cakey foundation comes with a side of blush blindness

As the wife of Eric Trump, Lara Trump has managed to wiggle her way into Donald Trump’s inner circle and landed her own Fox show, “My View with Lara Trump.” In being a solidified MAGA woman, Trump is fated for bouts of cakey foundation that, sadly, make her appear much older than she is. When Trump spoke at the RNC in 2024, not only was her cakey makeup on full display, but so was her blush blindness, the latter of which could’ve been saved by using the old-fashioned smile trick for the best blush application.

Cheryl Hines is the queen of MAHA cakey looks

Sometimes one has to wonder: Did Cheryl Hines, of “Curb Your Enthusiasm” fame, ever think this is where she’d be at 60? Probably not. However, as Hines stands by her man, US Secretary of Health and Human Services, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., she has been sucked into the MAGA or MAHA world, meaning it was inevitable that she would succumb to cakey makeup. Like anyone her age, Hines’ biggest issue with too much foundation is the way it’s highlighting the fine lines around her eyes and mouth — something that could have been prevented had she eased up on the amount she applied.

Tulsi Gabbard almost appears pleased with her look

When Tulsi Gabbard showed up for her first Senate confirmation for director of national intelligence in January 2025, she did not disappoint on the cakey makeup front. Gabbard also chose to rock a foundation shade far darker than her natural skin tone and she leaned into her eyebrow blindness. Considering the hardest part for anyone to nail in their makeup routine is their eyebrows, we can’t completely fault Gabbard for this particular beauty faux pas. However, Gabbard could have remedied the cakey situation by embracing the “less is more” technique or using a primer.
