US President Donald Trump told reporters on Monday that he doesn’t care if Iran returns to the negotiating table or not.While addressing the press at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, Trump stated, “I don’t care if they come back or not. If they don’t come back, I’m fine.”The US President also addressed the issue of the Iranian nuclear program. “There is no way. They still want it, and they made that clear the other night. Iran will not have a nuclear weapon,” he said.Additionally, Trump said he felt “very disappointed in NATO” because the countries in the alliance “weren’t there for us.” He also added, “We pay trillions of dollars for NATO, and they weren’t there for us… I think that’s going to be under very serious examination.”Finally, Trump told reporters that the US Navy would blockade the Strait of Hormuz starting Monday at 10 a.m. ET (5 p.m. Israel time), and that “other nations are working, so that Iran will not be able to sell oil, and that will be very effective.”Earlier this week, Trump stated that the primary reason negotiations failed in Islamabad was the regime’s refusal to give up on its nuclear ambitions.”In many ways, the points that were agreed to are better than us continuing our military operations to conclusion, but all of those points don’t matter compared to allowing nuclear power to be in the hands of such volatile, difficult, unpredictable people,” Trump explained.Trump said on Monday that, after the failure during the first round of negotiations between the US and Iran, the American Navy would block the Strait “effective immediately,” with all ships coming and going from Iranian ports being stopped.Iran Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi reacted to the blockade by calling it “maximalism,” and accusing the US of “shifting goalposts” during the negotiations in Islamabad last week. “Zero lessons learned,” he said in his social media statement.This is a developing story.Tobias Holcman contributed to this report.
