There’s a reason bad news travels so much faster than the correction.
The first headline is dramatic. It makes people angry, scared, or furious enough to share it before they’ve even finished their oatmeal.
Then later, the facts start trickling in nice and slow.
And suddenly the story isn’t quite what we were told. You find out most context and important details were missing, and that big explosive headline was premature. Maybe somebody has to issue a clarification or quietly change a headline… but by then, who cares?
The original story has already done its job, and everybody else moves on.
We’ve watched this happen so many times with the mainstream media that pretty soon you understand why the same “professionals” keep making the same amateur mistake. Either we’re dealing with the most remarkably stupid news industry on earth, or these “mistakes” are done on purpose to push a political agenda.
And now, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro just coughed up one of the messiest examples of this yet.
Two people in Pennsylvania died, and the state announced them as “measles-associated deaths.”
Shapiro and his staff weren’t interested in asking what “associated” meant in this context or for more pesky details to be sorted out before turning both deaths into a political attack against Health Secretary RKF Jr.
He blamed Kennedy’s anti-vaccine rhetoric for having “real-life consequences” and called the deaths “completely preventable.”
But like we said, facts matter, and for Shapiro there was one very big problem… and once people started digging into the story (what the media should’ve been doing all along), the spin from Shapiro’s team suddenly turned into a massive scandal. It turns out, the governor was caught lying to create a “measles scare” to influence midterms.
Sayer Ji, a senior adviser to MAHA, put together an extraordinary thread laying out the timeline, the unanswered medical questions, and the political hit job that was already forming around vaccines just in time for the midterms.
Here’s what Sayer found in a nutshell…
Pennsylvania released some of the most “politically useful” facts right away.
The deaths occurred in Lancaster, and the individuals were listed as unvaccinated. The state really blasted it out that these were Pennsylvania’s first measles-associated deaths in 35 years… you know, the “headline” grabber.
But Ji points out that some pretty basic information was still missing. The state hadn’t even told the public much about the second person, what other health issues may have been involved, what actually caused the deaths, or exactly how measles played a role in either case.
So, once again, the public got the big flashy headline before it got the complete story.
Ji also digs into the testing part as well.
He says that measles cases can be confirmed through several methods and explains why some of the laboratory terminology being thrown around doesn’t answer every question about transmission or attribution.
There were technical questions still hanging over the story while the political conclusion was already being blasted on chyrons and in newspapers.
And Shapiro didn’t walk into this scandal with a blindfold on.
Back in October 2025, he ordered Pennsylvania agencies to coordinate vaccine communications, created a central vaccine portal, and designed a workgroup to promote vaccines and combat “misinformation.”
By December, PA said that effort would include vaccine messaging tailored to different demographics and outreach to communities with historically lower vaccination rates.
So, while all of that was going on, a far-left private advocacy group called Protect Our Care expanded an operation called Public Health Watch. Ji says the project was staffed with people experienced in elections, advocacy, political campaigns, rapid response, and campaign-style communications.
Its purpose was to track Trump and Kennedy, shaping public narratives, and pushing back on the administration’s health policies.
Then we arrive at August…
On August 19, just six days before PA announced the two “measles” deaths, Protect Our Care and 314 Action released polling testing how different vaccine messages affected voters’ views of Republicans.
Their takeaway couldn’t be more political: “Vaccines are on the ballot.”
The day after, they published another line that looks suspicious in hindsight: “Needlessly putting kids in the hospital or morgue is a political loser.”
Five days after that, PA announced its two “measles-associated” deaths.
And when that news hit, they already had the political framing developed and were ready to roll.
Right on cue, Protect Our Care blamed Trump and Kennedy for fueling the fire.
Shapiro went after Kennedy directly, saying his rhetoric had “real-life consequences” and describing the deaths as completely preventable.
But the public still didn’t know exactly how measles factored into either death until the story started to spread.
Next came the “narrative compression.” Basically, that phrase “measles-associated death” gets shortened to the much more horrifying “died of measles.”
Once that version takes hold, it’s a lot easier to blame RFK Jr. and Trump. All that pesky nuance is gone, and the political accusation is what people remember.
Then the political blame hits high gear.
Keep in mind, this was all going down in Lancaster County, an area Trump carried big time, and Kennedy had spoken there years earlier. Ji believes this made Lancaster politically useful because they could present the outbreak as “evidence” that MAHA was harming people inside Trump country.
And they weren’t exactly subtle about the midterm messaging and framing.
Ji says polling showed a lot of support for MAHA among registered voters. So, they got to work early, hitching Republican candidates to RFK Jr.
PA gubernatorial politics were part of this mess too. Ji says that the Democrat Governors Association had already linked Republican Stacy Garrity to Kennedy months before the Lancaster deaths became news.
Then suddenly, an emotionally devastating public-health story landed directly in the middle of that existing political fight.
Coinky dink? No.
Shapiro and his political pals had a very powerful story on their hands and started drawing political conclusions from it before anybody even knew what the hell happened.
Ji’s thread goes even deeper into the diagnostic testing, sequencing questions, PA’s disclosures, the political polling, vaccine messaging, Lancaster’s political significance, and the timeline leading up to the state’s announcement… and he’s got all the receipts.

1/ What happened in Lancaster is no longer just a measles story. It is a case study in how a public-health event can be converted into an election-year weapon. Pennsylvania announced two “measles-associated deaths.” Within hours, a prebuilt political influence apparatus was directing the blame toward RFK Jr., Trump and MAHA.
2/ Start with what PA now admits: “Measles-associated” does NOT necessarily mean measles was certified as the immediate cause of death. One case—an infant—is under coroner investigation. The coroner is not investigating the other.
3/ The state released the politically potent facts—Lancaster, “unvaccinated,” first in 35 years—but still withholds: the second person’s age, comorbidities, clinical course, immediate/underlying causes, death certificates and exact diagnostic basis. FROM, WITH—or merely associated?
4/ A crucial correction: CDC does not require genotyping to classify a measles case as confirmed. PCR, IgM, seroconversion, virus isolation—or direct epidemiologic linkage—can qualify. But PA has not disclosed the basis for either death attribution.
5/ Standard measles RT-qPCR detects viral RNA. CDC says the ordinary assay alone cannot distinguish wild-type infection from vaccine-associated symptoms; that requires strain-specific testing or sequencing. PA released no assay or sequence data.
6/ Genotyping is not a magic truth machine. CDC says N-450 partial sequencing often cannot separate ongoing domestic spread from repeated importations. Even whole-genome sequencing can rule OUT links—but cannot prove them without epidemiology.
7/ Now the political architecture. In Oct. 2025, Shapiro ordered agencies to align vaccine communications, created a central portal and established a workgroup to “promote uptake” and combat “misinformation”—explicitly framed against RFK and Trump.
8/ Dec. 18, 2025: PA said the workgroup would discuss vaccine information “tailored to different demographics,” “harmful, inaccurate, and misguided” information, and engagement in areas with historically low vaccination rates. https://pa.gov/agencies/health/newsroom/new-vaccine-education-workgroup-holds-first-meeting Apr. 2, 2026: After its second meeting, PA said the group was “guiding tailored outreach to populations at higher risk for diseases like measles and hepatitis B.”
9/ Protect Our Care is not a public-health agency. It is a 501(c)(4) advocacy operation that says it uses a “campaign mentality” to influence policy, shape media narratives and hold politicians accountable. In Dec. 2025, it expanded “Public Health Watch,” staffing it with veterans of national elections, progressive advocacy, political campaigns, rapid response and “war rooms.” Its stated methods: track Trump/RFK “in real time,” deploy strategic messaging and storytelling, create a “compelling narrative” and pressure federal health institutions.
10/ Aug. 19—SIX DAYS before PA announced the deaths—Protect Our Care and 314 Action released polling that tested which vaccine messages made voters view Republicans less favorably. Their conclusion: “Vaccines are on the ballot.”
11/ Aug. 20—FIVE DAYS before the deaths—the same operation wrote: “Needlessly putting kids in the hospital or morgue is a political loser.” The emotional frame was already loaded.
12/ Aug. 25: PA announced two “measles-associated deaths.” That same day, Protect Our Care declared Trump and RFK had fueled the crisis “resulting in” those deaths—and pushed a national headline package assigning blame.
13/ Shapiro blamed Kennedy’s rhetoric for “real-life consequences” and called the deaths “completely preventable”—before the public saw cause-of-death findings, clinical records or the exact diagnostic basis. Political attribution outran the public evidence.
14/ Watch the narrative compression: “measles-associated” → “died of measles” → “RFK and Trump killed them” Each retelling strips away uncertainty until an association is experienced as settled causation—and then converted into electoral blame.
15/ Lancaster is no random backdrop. Trump won 57.48% there—166,261 votes. RFK spoke there in 2021. It is the ideal morality play for opponents: MAHA-aligned skepticism supposedly producing death inside its own political base.
16/ KFF found 43% of registered voters support MAHA. Recasting MAHA from health reform into a “danger to children” could suppress enthusiasm, put Republicans on defense and restore deference to institutions damaged by COVID.
17/ The DGA had already tied GOP nominee Stacy Garrity to RFK months earlier. The outbreak did not create the message. It supplied its emotional proof point: Shapiro = competent protector Garrity/RFK/MAHA = danger
18/ This is how influence operations work best: not necessarily by inventing every fact, but by selecting, timing, emotionally packaging and repeating incomplete facts until a politically useful inference feels like certainty.
19/ Demand the missing evidence: • immediate/underlying causes • clinical summaries • basis for “measles-associated” • assay type/results • vaccination verification • strain/sequence data • transmission-chain evidence • timeline of drafting, staging and outside briefings
20/ The documents show an overt persuasion apparatus and midterm message-testing existed BEFORE the deaths were announced. The unresolved question is whether the actors coordinated. Lancaster deserves public health and public proof—not conclusions scripted ahead of evidence.

Shapiro decided waiting wasn’t nearly as useful as talking and attacking.
Now he’s the face of this hoax and the scandal, and he should be grilled on his role and motives in this hoax.
The Lancaster County Commissioner is calling for answers and transparency.

Let’s be clear- when the Governor comes into our county and holds a press conference with PA Department of Health and Penn Medicine Lancaster general Health and states there were two “measles-associated deaths” here, with the underlying assertion that the two people died FROM measles, and they are the first deaths from measles in 35 years, and that announcement sets off numerous media reports uncritically repeating that two people died FROM measles in Lancaster County, and Lancaster County elected officials then get questions about this – it is totally fair for me to ask for relevant information on those deaths.
Asking questions is not “pro-measles.”
Asking for information that should have been provided at the press conference is not “anti-science.”
It is simply wanting the whole story for my constituents.
When officials who hold a big press conference and make big headlines – those officials owe us more than the headlines. They owe us the whole truth. They owe us accurate information by which the people of Lancaster County can make decisions about their health and safety.
It has been about 24 hours since the press conference. We do not have any answers. Of course journalists should also be asking these questions rather than uncritically repeating something.
Any deaths from measles are required by law to be reported to the Lancaster County Coroner’s Office. I have spoken at length with both a senior staff member from that office and the Coroner himself. They currently have zero measles deaths in Lancaster County. They have one death of a person who died WITH measles, but not from measles. We do not know if the state is counting that one. Nor do we know anything about the other death that officials reported yesterday.
Is there an unlikely scenario where a patient from here got measles and sought care outside of Lancaster County and died there and it was reported to another county coroner? Yes. I am open to that or other unlikely possibilities. But if one of these unlikely scenarios is the case, the people holding the press conference had, and currently have, a responsibility to provide that information.
The law DOES allow release of more information. Demographic information that does not identify the patient may be released.
I reached out to Penn Medicine LGH. No response.
I reached out the Governor’s office. No response.
I talked with our Lancaster County Department of Public Safety Director. He has no additional information from the state.
I asked questions this morning at our Board of Commissioners meeting of Commissioner Alice Yoder who was at the press conference yesterday and is a former official at Penn Medicine LGH. She did not have any answers. (This exchange is on video and will be available later today.)
So as of right now, we have ZERO information that corroborates the idea that there were two measles deaths in Lancaster County. Again, everything stated could be accurate. But no one in authority has been able to say that, nor have they even tried to say it.
To me it is a big deal if the Governor comes in and gives a press conference and then no one can or will identify simple details around what was stated and what then generated major news stories.
Transparency is owed to the people.
It is incumbent on those who held the press conference to clear this up.
Immediately.
As you can clearly see, this is becoming a very big deal.

Governor Shapiro’s unseemly rush to Lancaster County to convene a national press conference and his giddy delight in announcing two measles deaths was a morose commentary on the contemporary political dialogue. The performance was a replay of the Democrats’ COVID playbook: fearmongering, misinformation, finger-pointing, and the weaponization of infectious disease fears for political gain.
The announcement appears to have been premature, and the deaths may even have been altogether fabricated by one of the Governor’s hopeful staffers. The Lancaster County Coroner says that it has no record of any measles deaths. State law requires that all measles deaths be reported to the coroner.
Governor Shapiro shattered tradition and violated standard public health policy by refusing to share information with the County Health Department or CDC.
Since I have been in office, CDC has had a superb record of cooperation, information sharing, and professionalism with blue- and red-state governors and health officials. Those collaborations have resulted in effective control of the global measles outbreak in this country.
Governor Shapiro got his headlines. He correctly gambled that the slavish mainstream media would dutifully amplify his scolding without any effort to check his facts.

The bottom line is that two people died, and they deserved better than becoming midterm talking points, Josh Shapiro and the Dem Party.
