Longtime Fox News Host Reveals Future Plans at Network

Tevin McLeod - October 14, 2026

A 30-year Fox News vet has announced plans for his future as he approaches his 70th birthday.

Longtime Fox News personality Steve Doocy has confirmed that he has no plans to retire, revealing that he intends to continue working at the network despite stepping away from his regular studio duties on “Fox & Friends” last year.

Doocy, who turns 70 on October 19, discussed his future in a new interview with TV Insider, explaining that his transition to a traveling correspondent has allowed him to remain active in television while spending more time with his family.

The veteran broadcaster surprised viewers in May 2025 when he announced that he would no longer appear daily alongside his colleagues on the program’s familiar curved couch in New York City.

However, he did not intend the move to signal the end of his broadcasting career.

Instead, Doocy relocated to Florida and began traveling across the country to produce interviews and feature segments highlighting Americans, their communities and their experiences.

More than a year after making the change, he said he remains enthusiastic about his new responsibilities.

“My plan is just to keep going and do exactly what I’m doing,” Doocy told TV Insider.

“If it were boring, which has never been boring, I would think twice about it. But I’m having so much fun doing it,” he added.

Doocy explained that advancements in broadcasting technology have made it possible to conduct interviews from locations that previously would have been difficult to reach with traditional television equipment.

The network has incorporated LiveView Technologies, which allows correspondents to broadcast while moving through different environments.

The approach has enabled Doocy to conduct extended conversations with guests rather than relying on shorter studio interviews.

He said the format frequently provides eight to 10 minutes for discussions, giving viewers an opportunity to hear more detailed personal stories.

Doocy plans to continue working approximately three or four days each week, traveling to communities across the country.

Among his recent assignments was a visit to musician Ted Nugent’s rural Michigan property, where the production team used satellite internet technology to establish a reliable broadcast connection.

Doocy said the logistical challenges of traveling remain one of the more demanding aspects of his new position, although he considers the experience worthwhile.

His decision to reduce his studio responsibilities followed nearly three decades of early-morning television.

When announcing the change in May 2025, Doocy explained that his daily routine required waking up around 3:30 a.m. and commuting from New Jersey to Manhattan.

After years of maintaining that schedule, he wanted greater flexibility.

“I am not retiring. I’m not leaving the show. I’m still a host, but it’s time for a change,” he told viewers at the time.

Fox News Media CEO Suzanne Scott worked with Doocy to develop the arrangement, which allows him to continue contributing to the program without reporting to the New York studio every morning.

His longtime colleagues Brian Kilmeade, Ainsley Earhardt and Lawrence Jones continue hosting the show from New York.

The transition has also provided Doocy with additional opportunities to spend time with his wife, Kathy, their three children and grandchildren.

Family remains an important part of his life, particularly as his son, Peter Doocy, continues building his own career at Fox News.

Peter serves as the network’s senior White House correspondent and hosts “The Sunday Briefing,” covering the Trump administration and major developments in Washington.

Steve Doocy said one of the most rewarding aspects of his career has been watching his son establish himself as a journalist.

He recalled that viewers occasionally approach him to praise Peter’s reporting, sometimes suggesting that the younger Doocy has surpassed his father professionally.

Despite approaching his 70th birthday, Doocy said he remains committed to his current assignment and has no immediate plans to step away from television.

“So as long as I am still upright and can still walk, I’m going to go for walks with people,” he said. “I love it.”
