Minnesota IT (MNIT) Services did not disclose further details about the attacks that took place on Sunday and Monday but said there were no requests from cities for their residents to change their drinking water usage.

State investigators are assessing the affected systems, according to the agency.

John Israel, MNIT assistant commissioner and Minnesota chief information security officer, said in a statement that his agency was working with several state and federal agencies, including the FBI, as the investigation continues.

“MNIT is working side by side with our partners to share intelligence, support affected communities, and help utilities restore operations safely while strengthening defenses against future attacks,” he said in a statement.
