REPORT: Reason Revealed Why Maria Bartiromo Departed Network

Tevin McLeod - September 4, 2026

A very familiar figure at Fox News has reportedly been dismissed by the network after a 12-year stint, and there is some speculation that it is related to something President Trump has touched on for years.

Reports on Thursday noted that Fox News and Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo is out of the network after reportedly attempting to report on alleged Chinese interference in the 2020 election, per Dylan Byers, founding partner of Puck News.

“The Maria Bartiromo backstory, per multiple sources familiar,” he wrote on X shortly after the news broke that she was leaving the network.

“Maria Bartiromo wanted to pursue a story related to China and 2020 election voting conspiracies… a major sensitivity for the network given its Dominion and Smartmatic lawsuits,” the post continued.

“A Fox Business executive sent a text to Fox Business producers informing them that that story could not go to air,” he wrote.

“Bartiromo took a screenshot of the guidance and sent it to senior White House officials,” Byers claimed.

“Fox News leadership learned about that after receiving a call from the White House, which they viewed as a fireable offense,” he said.

“Fox pulled Bartiromo from air after Aug. 9. She was fired today. I have also learned that her executive producer Patrick Ignozzi was also fired after the annoucnement,” said Byers, adding: “Maria had resigned her contract with Fox last February.”

Bartiromo had been with Fox for 12 years, the New York Post reported.

“Effective today, Maria Bartiromo is no longer with Fox News Media,” the company announced.

“We thank Maria for her work over the last 12-and-a-half years and wish her all the best on her next chapter,” Fox News Media said in a statement.

On “Mornings with Maria,” Bartiromo’s last actual on-air appearance there was Friday, August 7. Although the program continued carrying her name through September 3, she was absent for nearly four weeks.

During that absence, several Fox Business personalities filled in rather than one permanent substitute:

– Jackie DeAngelis was hosting Mornings with Maria on August 20, including leading the program’s panels and interviews.

– Lauren Simonetti served as guest host, including on August 14.

– Cheryl Casone also guest-hosted during Bartiromo’s absence; for example, she is specifically listed as the guest host on August 27.

Casone, DeAngelis and Simonetti were among the principal rotating fill-ins while Bartiromo was gone.

There are actually three different Bartiromo programs to keep straight.

Fox announced yesterday that Mornings with Maria becomes Mornings with FOX Business starting Friday, with rotating anchors.

Bartiromo’s “Wall Street” becomes FBN’s Wall Street, with Cheryl Casone hosting Friday evening.

Jason Chaffetz will host Sunday Morning Futures on Sunday while Fox searches for a permanent host.

Fox Business is also expected to roll out a new weekday programming lineup in the coming weeks.

Bartiromo’s departure quickly sparked speculation that she could be under consideration to replace Karoline Leavitt as President Donald Trump’s press secretary.

Vice President JD Vance, however, pushed back on that possibility, saying he did not believe Bartiromo was headed to the White House.

Q: Maria Bartiromo just left Fox News. Is she going to be the next WH press secretary?

Vance: I don’t know, man. Uh, no, I don’t think so. pic.twitter.com/X80nTUdPsF

“I love Maria. I think she’s an amazing person, amazing talent,” Vance told reporters.

“Whatever she does, look, she’s gonna do great, and I wish her all the best. She’s a very, very dear friend,” the vice president added.
