RFK Jr. visits North Texas BBQ joint to end CPAC appearance

- March 29, 2026

After attending CPAC, which was held this weekend in Grapevine, RFK Jr. enjoyed a “protein-packed” meal in North Texas.

Secretary of Health & Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. stopped by a North Texas barbecue staple on Saturday after making an appearance at the Conservative Political Action Convention in Grapevine.

RFK Jr., known for the “Make America Healthy Again” movement, attended CPAC at Grapevine’s Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center, a four-day event featuring some of the GOP’s rising and established stars. Kennedy was embraced at the event, saying his uncle and father would approve of Trump’s foreign policy decisions, and attacking Democrats for not being broadly aligned with his MAHA ideology, according to reporting from Politico.

The event’s moderator, Mercedes Schlapp, did not ask Kennedy about his views on vaccines, which have attracted criticism and backlash from health experts, Democrats, and some judges who have stalled his administration’s proposed changes to the recommended vaccine schedule.

After the on-stage interview, Kennedy sought to advance his MAHA agenda with a “protein-packed meal” at The Original Roy Hutchins Barbeque in Trophy Club.

The Original Roy Hutchins Barbeque was founded in 2023 and shouldn’t be confused with the also-popular Hutchins BBQ located in Frisco.

Wesley Hutchins, the oldest son of Roy Hutchins, opened The Original Roy Hutchins Barbeque after a legal battle over the Hutchins BBQ trademark. The new name was intended to avoid confusion, WFAA previously reported.

The restaurant recently opened a new location on March 13 in Arlington, WFAA previously reported.

Kennedy posed for pictures around the restaurant and posted them to social media.

“After a big day at CPAC, I went looking for REAL FOOD. Stopped by the Original Roy Hutchins in Trophy Club, TX for protein-packed BBQ,” the post reads.

In one of the photos, Kennedy appears to be posing with one of Roy Hutchin’s signature items, the “Texas Twinkie,” a jalapeño stuffed with cream cheese and brisket and wrapped in bacon.
