‘She Is a Proud Liar’: Karoline Leavitt Faces Backlash For Claiming Most Americans Support Trump’s Iran Strikes

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt is currently under fire for her comments on President Donald Trump’s attacks on Iran. In a recent post on X, Leavitt stated that Trump’s latest military action was a major success and claimed that the operation was backed by Americans.

However, Leavitt’s post appeared to have backfired. While she pointed to polls showing how people across the country supported Trump’s strikes on Iran, netizens suggested otherwise.

Leavitt’s X Post Backfires

Leavitt took to her X account on March 19 and claimed, “Americans agree that Operation Epic Fury is an overwhelming success.” She then pointed to several polls included in a White House press release to support her statement.

According to those polls, the majority of people across America initially supported Trump’s airstrikes on Iran, when the country’s former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed. By sharing the post, Leavitt defended Trump’s decision, claiming that it was backed by public support.

However, her claim quickly ran into trouble when X users added a community note to her post, stating that the polls she shared did not represent all Americans. Netizens claimed that the polls mostly reflected the views of Republican voters, especially Trump’s core Make America Great Again (MAGA) base.

“The White House’s polls mentioned in the link only refers to MAGA Republicans or Republicans being in favor of the war, not the broader American public. This excludes Democrats and Independents being polled which skews the data and misrepresents America’s views as a whole,” X’s community note read.

A netizen wrote, “Do they really think this is going to work? Gaslighting and propaganda don’t work anymore, lady.” Meanwhile, criticism did not come just from regular users.

Journalist Mehdi Hasan weighed in, “She is linking to an article showing only MAGA Republicans support the war, and then claiming ‘Americans agree’ with it. Her own link shows her to be a liar. She’s a proud and open liar. Reporters should treat her as such.”

‘X Is Not Real Life’

As the situation quickly turned into a bigger problem for the White House, Leavitt took a different route sensing a possible disconnect between her messaging and public opinion. The White House press secretary dismissed the backlash completely.

Speaking to reporters the next day, Leavitt argued that reactions on X do not reflect what people in the real world think. Showing her unwavering support for Trump, the 28-year-old stated that the president’s actions are focused on protecting the country.

“I would remind people X is not real life. Trump lives in the real world. There is nothing more America First than taking out terrorists who have maimed and killed our servicemen and women,” she said.

Leavitt then insisted that Americans trust Trump as their Commander-in-Chief and support his efforts to eliminate threats. “As I’ve said repeatedly, Americans trust President Trump as their Commander-in-Chief and support his efforts to eliminate terrorist threats and keep us safe.”

She concluded, “There is no ‘MAGA fracturing,’ no matter how many times the media tries to claim otherwise.” The press secretary rejected claims that there is any division within Trump’s supporter base, calling such reports false.
