U.S. Democrat Representative Summer Lee of Pennsylvania introduced articles of impeachment against U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi on Tuesday. The decision was taken over concerns regarding how the Department of Justice has handled the release of the files in the sex abuse case involving Jeffrey Epstein. Lee’s efforts to impeach Bondi are being co-sponsored by Democrat Representatives Yassamin Ansari, Valerie Foushee, Dave Min, Rashida Tlaib and Maxine Dexter.

In July 2025, Lee filed a motion compelling the DOJ to release the full and unredacted Epstein files, which had been active since August 19, 2025. The congresswoman then introduced an amendment in January 2026 to hold Bondi in civil contempt for noncompliance with the Oversight Committee’s subpoena to release the files.
Now, Lee is doubling down by introducing articles of impeachment against Bondi in regards to the files.
“The Attorney General of the United States is entrusted with one of the most solemn responsibilities in our democracy: to enforce the law fairly, impartially, and without political influence. Instead, Pam Bondi is breaking the law to protect pedophiles and prosecute Trump’s political opponents,” she said in a press release. “This is about accountability, transparency, and justice. We deserve a justice system that serves the people, not one that is weaponized for political gain.”
The articles of impeachment include several allegations, including “defiance of the Oversight’s Committee’s subpoena to release the full, unredacted Epstein files, defiance of the Epstein Files Transparency Act, abuse of investigatory and prosecutorial authority, defiance of federal court orders, and perjury in congressional testimony.”
The articles also allege that the DOJ is being politicized in its firing if public servants in the department and the FBI, by conducting politically motivated investigations into President Donald Trump’s alleged opponents, targeting journalists and protestors, as well as shutting down investigations and dismissing lawsuits involving Trump and his allies, according to the release.
“Pamela Bondi knowingly and intentionally abused the power of her office to shield individuals named in the Epstein files, such as political leaders and other influential individuals, including Donald J. Trump, from accountability and oversight by Congress,” the resolution reads and The Grio reported.

The articles of impeachment were co-sponsored by Representatives Yassamin Ansari, Valerie Foushee, Dave Min, Rashida Tlaib and Maxine Dexter.
“Pam Bondi is complicit in the most egregious cover up in American history, hiding documents that reveal a young woman reported being sexually assaulted by Donald Trump when she was just a minor and spying on Members of Congress performing their constitutional oversight duties,” Ansari said in a press release. “Bondi’s actions are not only disgusting and wrong, they are also illegal, in direct violation of the Epstein Files Transparency Act and her oath of office. She must be held accountable and impeached immediately.”
Foushee noted the importance of the role of the Attorney General in upholding the law outside of political influence.
“The duty of an Attorney General is to uphold the Constitution, protect civil and human rights, and ensure equal justice under the law—not shield the powerful, evade accountability, or misuse the Department of Justice for political ends,” she said.
Pam Bondi was recently subpoenaed to testify before Congress in the DOJ investigation into Epstein
Oversight Committee Chairman and Republican Representative James Comer formally subpoenaed Bondi to testify before Congress on April 14, according to The Grio. During the hearing, Bondi will be questioned about her handling of the investigation into Epstein.
Comer wrote in the subpoena letter that his committee is investigating the “possible mismanagement” of the investigation, according to the BBC. Republican Representative Nancy Mace had previously introduced a motion to subpoena Bondi and accused the DOJ of a “cover-up” in releasing the Epstein files.
A spokesperson for the DOJ called the subpoena “completely unnecessary.”
