President Donald Trump is preparing for what could become an unusually intensive campaign schedule this fall as Republicans work to retain control of Congress in the November midterm elections.
Fox News senior White House correspondent Peter Doocy reported Friday that discussions are underway about a major increase in Trump’s campaign travel during the final weeks before Election Day.

“We are hearing some whispers of a ton of Trump travel in October,” Doocy said, adding that the schedule could include “a Trump rally a day” in some of the country’s most competitive states and congressional districts.
Such a schedule would put Trump at the center of the Republican midterm strategy and reflect his effort to persuade supporters to approach the election with the same urgency as one of his own presidential campaigns.

Trump has made that message explicit, recently urging supporters to “pretend” that he is on the ballot even though his name will not appear before voters in November.
The approach reflects Republican concerns about whether voters who reliably turn out for Trump will also participate in a midterm election when he is not personally running.

Doocy also noted that control of Congress will have direct consequences for the final two years of Trump’s second term. A Democratic majority in either chamber could increase congressional oversight of the administration and complicate the president’s legislative agenda.
Trump has already begun inserting himself into several closely watched races, including the U.S. Senate contest in Texas between Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton and Democratic state Rep. James Talarico.
Trump traveled to Houston in late August to headline a Republican National Committee fundraiser and boost Paxton, whom he backed during the Republican primary against longtime Sen. John Cornyn. Before leaving Washington, Trump said he planned to devote additional time to the race.
“I’m going to help Ken Paxton, and I’m going to spend a lot of time in Texas,” Trump told reporters.

The Texas contest has become significantly more competitive than Republicans initially expected.

The Cook Political Report moved the race from Lean Republican to Toss Up in August, citing public and private polling showing Paxton and Talarico in a close contest. Trump carried Texas by more than 13 percentage points in the 2024 presidential election.
Talarico has also built a major fundraising advantage. His campaign reported raising more than $30 million during the second quarter of 2026, compared with more than $9 million reported by Paxton’s campaign.
Outside Republican groups have begun increasing their involvement in Texas as the race tightens, while Trump has pledged substantially more financial support for GOP candidates nationwide.

On Friday, Trump said MAGA Inc., the super PAC aligned with him, would spend roughly $400 million to $500 million supporting Republican candidates in the midterms. The group had accumulated more than $400 million in cash by July, giving Trump-aligned organizations significant resources for the final two months of the campaign.
Trump’s direct involvement could also provide Republican candidates with something campaign committees cannot easily duplicate: national media attention and large rallies capable of drawing thousands of supporters.
At the same time, individual Republican candidates will have to determine how prominently they want Trump involved in their races, particularly in closely divided districts where candidates must appeal beyond the Republican base.

The broader challenge facing Republicans is also historical. The party controlling the White House frequently loses congressional seats during midterm elections, making turnout among Trump’s supporters an important part of the GOP strategy.
If the plans described by Doocy materialize, Trump could spend much of October moving between battleground states and districts, effectively turning the closing weeks of the 2026 midterms into a nationwide campaign centered heavily on his presidency and the Republican effort to maintain control of Congress.
