White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt was forced to cut short her press conference at the Oval Office on Friday after Dr. Mehmet Oz’s swearing-in as CMS administrator. The press briefing, which had both President Trump and Dr. OZ in it, was halted because of a reported medical emergency. “Press out! Everybody get out, right now!” Leavitt told reporters, even as Trump was speaking, sparking confusion among all present at the Oval Office.

Here’s the video of the moment:

What Happened At The White House Press Brief?

Trump was answering questions about Iran’s nuclear program when reporters were abruptly asked to leave, the Associated Press said in its live blog. A young girl, identified as a member of Dr. Oz’s family, had collapsed and appeared to faint in the Oval Office. Oz quickly rushed to her side. Though she managed to stand, she seemed unsteady and was assisted out of the room.

The incident occurred shortly after a ceremony swearing in Dr. Oz as head of the agency overseeing Medicare and Medicaid. While the White House did not identify the girl, officials later confirmed she was fine.

Who Is Dr. Mehmet Oz?

Dr. Mehmet Oz, 64, is a former heart surgeon and TV talk-show host, will now be the head of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) – the agency overseeing health insurance for nearly half the US population, including Medicare, Medicaid, and Affordable Care Act coverage. He assumes the role as Congress weighs potential cuts to Medicaid, a program vital to millions of low-income and disabled Americans.

During a Friday Oval Office ceremony, Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. administered the oath while President Trump looked on. Trump reiterated his pledge of “no cuts” to Medicare and Medicaid, thanking Oz for the “big commitment” he’s making.
