MSN – In one of the largest enforcement actions of its kind in recent Vermont history, armed agents from U.S. Customs and Border Protection arrested eight undocumented farmworkers on Pleasant Valley Farms in Berkshire, near the Canadian border, taking them to Swanton for detention at Northwest State Correctional Facility.
Amanda St. Pierre, who owns the farm with her husband, Mark, said in an email, “On April 21, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol Agents detained several of our employees. We do not know the details or reasons at this time. We have cooperated fully with their instructions. Our employees were hired following the federal and state employment requirements.
We remain supportive of our employees and appreciative of the valuable role they play in our community performing essential work on our farm. Our highest priority right now is to provide support to the individuals and their families. We hope this matter is resolved quickly.”
