MSN – Texas public school classrooms could be required to display copies of the Ten Commandments under a bill passed by the Texas Senate late Wednesday.
Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said in a statement the bill would “ensure our students receive the same foundational moral compass as our state and country’s forefathers.”
The bill must still be adopted by the state House.
The state proposal builds on growing momentum across the Deep South to weave more Christianity into classrooms.
In 2023, lawmakers approved allowing chaplains in schools. Last year, the State Board of Education narrowly approved Bible-infused lessons that public campuses could use.
And on Tuesday, the Senate passed a bill that would allow public school leaders to impose on students and staff a period of praying and reading religious texts.
