President Donald Trump announced Thursday that the United States will send an additional 5,000 troops to Poland, marking a sharp reversal after recent indications that the administration was preparing to scale back some military deployments in Europe.
Trump made the announcement in a Truth Social post, directly tying the move to his relationship with Poland’s new president, Karol Nawrocki.
“Based on the successful Election of the now President of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, who I was proud to Endorse, and our relationship with him, I am pleased to announce that the United States will be sending an additional 5,000 Troops to Poland,” Trump wrote.

The decision comes after a turbulent stretch of U.S.-European tensions.
Trump recently signaled he would pull thousands of American troops from Germany, escalating friction with European allies.
That dispute intensified after German Chancellor Friedrich Merz publicly criticized the administration’s approach to negotiations involving Iran.
Trump had also reportedly been expected to reduce deployments in Poland.

The Polish leader has embraced nationalist and conservative positions while keeping a distance from deeper European Union integration.

The announcement quickly drew praise from conservative Polish figures.
Piotr Müller, a member of the European Parliament, celebrated the decision publicly.
