White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt was confronted on the White House driveway over a brutal poll on the ongoing Signalgate scandal that has engulfed President Donald Trump’s administration.
Fox News host Brian Kilmeade complained to Leavitt on Thursday’s edition of Fox & Friends that the press is “going to pound you” on the Signalgate scandal “all day” and asked “how do you handle that?”
Leavitt quickly got to demonstrate the answer when she came to the sticks on the driveway to the West Wing Thursday morning to speak with reporters and was immediately asked about the scandal.
Another reporter confronted Leavitt about a YouGov survey that showed a whopping 74% of Americans think the Signal leak is a “very (53%) or somewhat (21%) serious problem,” and asked, “Does the administration plan to hold anyone accountable, potentially change their messaging on it?”
Leavitt performed a similar pivot to the one she did on Fox:
REPORTER: Do you have an update on the status of the internal investigation that you described yesterday?
KAROLINE LEAVITT: Not this morning, but we’ve been incredibly transparent about this entire situation, and we will continue to be.
…
REPORTER: A new YouGov poll shows that 75%, around 75% of Americans consider that the Signal, the problem, is a very serious problem.
Does the administration plan to hold anyone accountable, potentially change their messaging on it?
KAROLINE LEAVITT: Well, we have never denied that this was a mistake, and the national security advisor took responsibility for that, and we have said we are making changes.
We are looking into the matter to ensure it can never happen again.
But of course, the president has put together a team–. Look at the Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, who was voted in by the United States Senate, putting our warfighters first, making the world a safer place for the American people and for all people, and were going to stay focused on that.
And I think the the arrest of an MS-13 gang leader this morning speaks volumes about the competence of the president and his team. Thanks guys.
