WASHINGTON (TNND) — Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard on Wednesday said she referred two recent intelligence leaks to the Department of Justice for prosecution, including a recent scoop published in the Washington Post.
The Post this week reported that U.S. intelligence determined the Venezuelan government is not conducting an invasion of the United States via the criminal gang Tren de Aragua, despite President Donald Trump having used such a premise to justify his mass deportation immigration policy. The publication cited anonymous intelligence community sources for the information.
Gabbard said the leak is one of two cases she referred to the Department of Justice. She added a third intelligence leak case is also forthcoming.
“Politicization of our intelligence and leaking classified information puts our nation’s security at risk and must end,” she wrote via X. “Those who leak classified information will be found and held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”
“These deep-state criminals leaked classified information for partisan political purposes to undermine POTUS’ agenda,” she added. “I look forward to working with @TheJusticeDept and @FBI to investigate, terminate and prosecute these criminals.”
In a separate post, Gabbard addressed “weaponization of intelligence to undermine the President’s agenda,” which she described as “an assault on democracy.”
“Those behind this illegal leak of classified intelligence, twisted and manipulated to convey the exact opposite finding, will be held accountable under the full force of the law,” she added.
The Washington Post did not respond to a request for comment from The National News Desk about Gabbard’s decision.
The news comes as the Department of Defense is embroiled in internal turmoil over continued leaks of sensitive information. Rep. Don Bacon, R-Neb., reportedly expressed support Monday for firing Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, according to Politico.
