US Attorney Pirro: Ilhan Omar’s Financial Disclosures Being Investigated

Tevin McLeod - October 19, 2026

Republican demands for accountability intensified after federal investigators searched the Washington residence of Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar amid two separate inquiries.

Fox News reported that Homeland Security Investigations agents executed a judicially authorized search warrant early Monday morning.

Investigators are examining whether Omar or relatives provided false information during her family’s immigration and citizenship process.

Federal authorities have not charged Omar with a crime, and allegations of wrongdoing remain unproven.

Nevertheless, the investigations represent significant developments for Republicans demanding transparency from one of Congress’s most outspoken progressives.

The immigration inquiry reportedly concerns documents submitted after Omar’s family fled Somalia and arrived in America during 1995.

Omar became a United States citizen in 2000, years before winning her congressional seat in 2018.

The warrant’s supporting evidence remains undisclosed, preventing independent assessment of the government’s underlying allegations.

Investigators also issued more than a dozen subpoenas, including requests involving members of Omar’s family.

Such proceedings would require legal findings, and citizenship cannot be revoked merely because investigators suspect wrongdoing.

Omar rejected the search as political intimidation and accused the administration of targeting its opponents.

Omar called the raid political intimidation and denied wrongdoing in a statement released after the search.

Her statement denied wrongdoing, while administration officials insisted investigators should follow evidence rather than political considerations.

President Donald Trump said investigators were examining Omar carefully but denied directing the operation himself.

“I have nothing to do with it,” Trump told reporters when questioned about the search.

“But we’re going to see whether she did commit a crime,” Vance said in remarks to Fox News.

“And if she did, we’re obviously going to follow the law,” the vice president added.

Republicans also received another development Tuesday when Washington’s United States attorney, Jeanine Pirro, confirmed a financial investigation.

That separate inquiry concerns substantial changes in assets Omar reported through businesses associated with husband Tim Mynett.

Her original filing covering 2024 listed business interests valued between six million and thirty million dollars.

The previous year’s reported values for those interests ranged from fifteen thousand to fifty-one thousand dollars.

One company, Rose Lake Capital, reportedly jumped from at most one thousand dollars to twenty-five million dollars.

Another, the winery eStCru, rose from a maximum fifty thousand dollars to five million dollars.

Those striking figures attracted scrutiny from watchdogs and congressional Republicans seeking explanations for the reported changes.

The National Legal and Policy Center also submitted a complaint questioning the accuracy of Omar’s disclosures.

Her office attributed the earlier figures to accounting errors involving business liabilities and ownership interests.

The revised disclosures valued the relevant business equity at zero after accounting for liabilities.

Omar has maintained that she is not a millionaire and denied knowingly filing misleading information.

Importantly, a congressional oversight body voted five to one recommending dismissal of misconduct allegations in September.

That recommendation did not prevent Pirro’s office from opening a separate investigation into the financial discrepancies.

For Republicans, the parallel inquiries offer a prominent opportunity to emphasize consistent enforcement and government accountability.

The financial discrepancies are particularly significant because lawmakers must accurately disclose assets and financial interests under federal ethics requirements.

But neither investigation currently establishes fraud, and prosecutors must prove any criminal accusations through appropriate legal proceedings.

Justice Department practice generally discourages overt investigative steps near elections when postponement would not compromise an investigation.

Omar’s supporters argue the raid violates that principle and reflects longstanding political hostility toward the congresswoman.

Republicans counter that public officials should not receive immunity from scrutiny merely because they hold elected office.

The Minnesota lawmaker has frequently criticized Trump’s immigration policies and Republican priorities since entering Congress.

The new investigations therefore do not automatically make her congressional seat competitive in November.

Still, Republicans seeking accountability can point to two unresolved questions requiring factual answers from investigators.

The first concerns whether immigration records accurately reflected the circumstances of Omar’s path to citizenship.

The second concerns why financial disclosures changed so dramatically before being revised to much smaller figures.

Both questions warrant careful examination without presuming guilt or dismissing legitimate concerns about political interference.

For now, the cases remain active, Omar denies wrongdoing, and Republicans await answers from federal authorities.
