Trump could be eyeing Canada’s water for California
A river that runs between the U.S. and Canada has now run itself right into the middle of the fight between the two allies.
President Donald Trump’s administration has now stopped negotiations to re-up a decades-old U.S.-Canada treaty that controls the flow of the Columbia River between British Columbia after claiming it could play a role in solving California water shortages.
Last year, Biden’s administration reached a tentative three-year agreement with Canadian officials to renew the Columbia River Treaty, which governs flood control and hydropower sharing between the two countries.
Trump’s decision to pause treaty negotiations comes after he once called the river a “very large faucet” that he said could provide much-needed water to California if diverted — indicating he may be interested in ending the treaty to access more water from the river, Le Monde reports.

Rachel Reeves has said she has “confidence” the UK can escape Donald Trump’s trade tariffs – due to be imposed within days.

Ms Reeves told Sky News she had “confidence in our negotiators” working to try to secure a carve out for the UK.

White House seeks out corporate sponsors for annual Easter Egg roll: report
The White House is using an outside event production company to solicit corporate sponsors for this year’s Easter Egg Roll – prompting ethics concerns from former officials.
A draft document laying out sponsorship opportunities, seen by CNN, offers a range from $75,000 to $200,000 with the promise of logo and branding opportunities. It features images of the president, first lady, White House, and members of the White House press corps. All the money raised will go to the Whtie House Historical Association.
The annual Easter Egg Roll is typically privately funded as there are regulations prohibiting the use of public office for private gain. Allowing corporations to buy into it could also set up the potential for a conflict of interest problem.

Trump allies tell White House to dial back Musk interviews over Social Security concerns
Despite President Donald Trump promising not to touch Social Security benefits, his right-hand man, billionaire Elon Musk, has repeatedly criticized the public program worrying the public that their hard-earned benefits are next to be cut.
Those concerns have led some Trump allies to question whether Musk should continue doing media interviews, four people familiar with the matter told NBC News.
During a conversation with podcast host Joe Rogan, Musk called Social Security “the biggest Ponzi scheme of all time.” Later, Musk joined Larry Kudlow on Fox Business to say entitlements in the program were “the big one to eliminate.”

Musk reprises controversial election tactic and offers money to people who sign MAGA petition
An Elon Musk-backed group is offering voters in Wisconsin $100 to sign a petition opposing “activist judges” just two weeks ahead of a state Supreme Court election.
Musk’s Super PAC made a similar offer to swing state voters during last year’s election campaign. The political action committee, America PAC, revealed the petition in a Thursday night post on X. It says that each voter in the state who signs the petition will receive $100 in addition to another $100 for every signer they refer.
The campaign of the Supreme Court candidate backed by the Democrats, Susan Crawford, argued that Musk was attempting to buy votes ahead of the April 1 election. The offer was shared two days after the start of early voting in the race, pitting Crawford against the Republican-and-Musk-backed candidate, Brad Schimel.
