White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt tore into Democrats and left-leaning media outlets over reporting on the Maryland father who was deported to El Salvador’s notorious megaprison.
Speaking at the White House press briefing Tuesday, Leavitt slammed “many in this room” for caring more about the case of Kilmar Abrgo Garcia than the murder of Maryland mother of five Rachel Morin, who was brutally murdered by an illegal immigrant two years ago.
Garcia, a Salvadoran national, was arrested in Baltimore on March 12, shortly after leaving his job as a sheet metal worker to pick up his 5-year-old son. He was shipped to El Salvador with hundreds of other “foreign terrorists,” according to Leavitt.
Previously, the government claimed — without evidence — that Garcia was in the bloodthirsty MS-13 gang.

On that note, the Democrat and media outrage over deportation of [Kilmar] Abrego Garcia , an MS-13 El Salvadorian illegal alien criminal hiding in Maryland is nothing short of despicable. Based on sensationalism of many of the people in this room, you would think we deported a candidate for a father of the year. That’s because unfortunately many in this country care more about this ‘Maryland father,’ a legal MS-13 gang member than a Maryland mother and American citizen who was brutally murdered at the hands of a different illegal alien. Of course, I’m referring to Rachel Morin. And if you didn’t see yesterday a Maryland jury found illegal alien Victor Antonio Martinez Hernandez guilty of amurdering Rachel Morin in August 2023. She was 37-year-old mother of five who was jogging in an otherwise safe community northeast of Baltimore when this monster ambushed, strangled and beat her to death before stuffing her brutalized body in a tunnel drain. The Morin family finally got justice yesterday, they will never get Rachel back.
Last week, U.S. District Judge Paula Xinis ordered the administration to arrange Garcia’s return, an order the Trump administration has rejected.
“The record reflects that Abrego Garcia was apprehended in Maryland without legal basis … and without further process or legal justification was removed to El Salvador,” she wrote in her order.
At the White House on Monday, El Salvador President Nayib Bukele refused to return a Maryland man who the Trump administration admitted was mistakenly sent to CECOT, the infamous megaprison in his country.
“The question is preposterous,” Bukele said when asked if he intended to free and send Garcia back to the U.S. “I don’t have the power to return him to the United States.”
He added: “We’re not very fond of releasing terrorists into our country. We just turned the murder capital of the world into the safest country in the Western Hemisphere. You want us to go back to releasing criminals so they can go back?” Bukele added.
