The FBI has instructed officials to ramp up efforts to pursue immigration-related cases, reducing time dedicated to white-collar crimes to do so.
Citing four people familiar with the matter, Reuters reported that field offices were told they will have to start dedicating about a third of their time to help the Trump administration crack down on unlawful immigration. The guidelines mean that white-collar cases will no longer be a priority for at least the remainder of 2025.
The outlet noted that the order came on the same day as the head of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division issued new guidance instructing prosecutors to scale back the scope of white-collar cases to “minimize the length and collateral impact” of the investigations. President Donald Trump and Attorney General Pam Bondi have previously said they will scale back efforts to prosecute offenses including public corruption, foreign bribery, kleptocracy and foreign influence.
New areas that will be prioritized include health care fraud, trade and customs fraud, elder securities fraud and cases against financial gatekeepers who enable terrorists, transnational criminal groups and cartels, Reuters detailed.
