Karoline Leavitt showed off her maternal side on Tuesday as she answered questions from children during her latest press briefing at the White House.
Karoline Leavitt, the youngest-ever White House press secretary, showcased her motherly instincts during a recent press briefing at the White House, but she was stumped by one question in particular about Donald Trump’s favorite US President ever – aside from himself.
On Tuesday May 20, which coincided with “Take Our Sons and Daughters To Work Day,” she took time to field questions from children on a variety of topics.
In another moment, a young girl inquired if Trump had ever fired anyone, causing the room to erupt in laughter. Leavitt candidly informed the kids that he hadn’t fired anyone, but someone did leave their position. “So far, we haven’t had anyone fired, except for one person who did quit their job,” Leavitt said after a laugh. “But we have a great team here. So far, so good.”

The son of a journalist then asked about Trump’s favorite ice cream. The press secretary, who is also a mother, responded: “I have seen the President eat ice cream sundaes with chocolate sauce and some toppings too.”
But the question that caused her the most hassle was a child asking about who Trump’s favorite president ever was, aside from himself.

A small bit stumped, Leavitt replied: “That’s a good question, because it would be – uh, probably – himself”, before eventually settling on George Washington as her answer.
Surrounded by children of all ages, Leavitt displayed a softer side, contrasting her usual assertive demeanor. She shares her baby boy Nico with her husband Nicholas Riccio.
Nicholas, a self-made millionaire, has invested in waterfront properties in Hampton Beach. The couple got engaged in December 2023 and tied the knot in January 2025.
Leavitt has candidly discussed the challenges of juggling motherhood with her career ambitions. In a conversation with the Christian Broadcasting Network, she confessed feeling “guilty” for the time her profession takes her away from her son.
She elaborated, “I spend every second that I possibly can with my son when I’m home on weekends and evenings.”
Leavitt further noted: “I try to make it home for bedtime as much as I can throughout the week.”
The pressure of motherhood weighs on her, especially given her high-profile job at the White House.
In her own words, Leavitt acknowledged: “I think every working mother understands the demands. No matter where you are, what you’re doing, there is a sense of guilt.”
Addressing a question on Instagram in December about the job’s demands and potentially missing out on moments with her child, she answered: “I literally pray about this everyday. It’s very difficult but it’s also all I know. I went back to work just days after giving birth. I have learned to multi-task and prioritize my time. It gives me a great perspective on life and allows me to remember that not every bad day is the end of the world because my greater purpose is being a mom.”
